Hailey nodded and grunted, “Nngg. Aye, Twitch, aye.”

“That was not pleasant. Maybe we will find another way out so we don’t have to go that way again.”


First thing first, she pulled out a sunrod from her pack and struck it to lit it off. She put the shaft into its holder on pack so lit end stuck above her shoulder.

Then Hailey removed the sodden hat and slicked back the drenched strands of hair that now stank of the filthy water. It sort of pushed the water mostly from them so the dripped less and the hair was matted against her scalp.

She slapped the hat against her thigh to slam some of the water out of it, then she plopped the dropping thing back on her head.

Combat Surprise Round & Round 1

As Hailey lights up her sunrod, Zeta notices that there is light coming from elsewhere and figures out the source. Glowing beetles emerge from cracks in the walls.

Everyone except Zeta is surprised, so Zeta is the only one that can act during the surprise round.

Initiative (Surprise Round):

Initiative (Other Rounds):
Hailey-23 (Dex 18, Tie Breaker 14)
Twist-23 (Dex 18, Tie Breaker 3)

Beetle1 tries to bite Hailey and hits for 1 damage; Beetle2 tries to bite Aja and hits for 4 damage; Beetle3 tries to bite Zeta and misses; Beetle4 tries to bite Twist and misses; and Beetle5 tries to bite Olrich and misses.

Zeta is up for the surprise round and Hailey, Twist, Aja and Vandor are up for Round 1.

Hailey shook her boot and dislodged the little biter before it did more than superficial injury.

“Gah! The welcome here sucks as bad as the stench.”

She drew her rapier and tried poking the offending creature. She had no room to really maneuver and use weapons that she was better suited for. But with the beetles in amongst them already, trying not to hit one of her allies was also less than ideal.

Besides, Hailey figured none of her companions would welcome a bullet in the back.

Her rapier stuck into the beetle.

Zeta recoils back from the beetle that tries to bite her, narrowly avoiding its mandibles as she whips out her sword, a narrow, flexible thing very similar to Hailey's rapier. She jabs the tip of it at the beetle attacking her, hoping to skewer the nasty thing! The surprise of the thing, and her own defensive reaction hamper her attack, however...

Rapier attack: 1D20+5 = [5]+5 = 10 1D6+2 = [1]+2 = 3
 

[section]Twist's eyes bug out. "Zeta! Oh, no!" The ratling grimaces as Beetle3 misses his beloved android. Not paying any heed to Beetle4--the beetle that attempted to bite Twist--the ratkin stands up, draws a dagger, and attempts to prick Beetle3.[/section]
[sblock=Dagger Attack]Twist's standing up from sitting and drawing his dagger probably draw an AoO. Since Twist is fatigued, his AC is 17. Dagger, 1d20+4 = 10. If the beetles are size small, then Twist's attack result will hit AC 9. If Twist hits, he does 1d3 = 2 points of damage.[/sblock]

Vandor condition: Sickened

Vandors stomach was churning. He hadn't felt like this since he tried to win the pie eating contest at the Inn. The annoying little pests were scurrying under their feet and biting some of his traveling companions. Quickly drawing his morningstar, he reaches past Zeta to squash the beetle attacking her. He wasn't sure if it could hurt her or not but better to kill it than risk it biting someone else.

The blow comes down hard upon the beetle and squishes it, dead.
