Tommi continues to follow the light provided by Oh-six. The cavern widens out, and he pays little attention the archillogy-talk the others are doing. He looks around as best he can, to ensure there's no gnolls, undead, or giant rats (now in that order) in the way. Onward.

Onward they pressed. They came to another larger cavern - this one littered with ancient detritus, and half-filled by a shallow pool of water that poured in from a fissure to the north.

Bones, broken crude pottery, and desiccated old furs were littered about. There was another carved half-sphere of stone in a style similar to the one in the previous cavern. Oh-Six's light showed that this cavern also had fur-and-filth stuffed rat-holes in the southern wall.

Key: 1) The square cistern in the bricked room; 2) The cavern with the low-hanging ceiling; 3) The cavern with the cave paintings and the first half-sphere; 4) a tunnel that leads toward where Tommi and Lionel saw the undead.

Tommi has never heard the expression, "once bitten twice shy." Well, that's not completely true: folk back in Daggerford must have used it, but all Tommi ever heard was "once bitten, twice try". Regardless, he now has a hate on for the rats (arguably distracting him momentarily from his bigger hate for the gnolls), and a curiosity of what might be lurking in these warrens.

He's prepared now, and acting cautiously. So when he sees the new holes, stuffed with rotten fur, he takes Gutter and stabs quickly inside, hoping to spear one of the rat-kin inside. He pulls his hand away, and readies himself for any ensuing attack. If it's clear (he holds his breath and counts slowly to ensure no precipitous action) he'll use the blade to scoop the hole out.

In his mind, he thinks he's being scientific, though he doesn't use the word. The others are all talking about archaeology and stuff, and that's just another word for treasure-hunting, right? And that what he's doing, what he's done, in fact. Surely Escella will notice how cautious he's being this time.

The first hole that Tommi thrust his blade into was clear, so he scooped out the fluff and debris. A few bones fell out, including a broken human skull, and a necklace of tarnished silver with a blue gemstone. With the "plug" removed, there was a hole large enough for Lionel to fit in and a rat-tunnel led away into darkness.
