D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

Archon Basileus

First Post
While Drui waits for Enseth's overview of the area, he begins to scan the environment, trying to identify any sings of larger groups passing through the area. Also, he wants to determine what areas would offer better ambush points, and what zones could be used to enter without causing alarm.

Angis grumbled into his beard at the sight of Julkoon and its burned outbuildings and farmhouses. “At least the town still stands,” Angis said. “Let me scout on ahead a bit.”

The dwarf moved off into the brush alongside the road to creep closer to the town, hopefully unseen.

Legend
Angis

While everyone waited for ORB1 to report, Angis slipped ahead to get a look at the town. It was immediately apparent to him that all was not well. A few things were amiss: Ragged black flags could be seen, set into the parapet of each guard tower. A field of goads (sharpened stakes fixed in the ground) and lilies (5-foot-deep, staked pits) had been recently added around the palisade.

Though he could not see the nature of the guards, he could see movement in the guard posts. The were occupied by shadowy humanoids - probably hobgoblins. He stayed low behind a burnt-out building, shifting to the other side. From there, he noticed a large barn that had not been burned. The ground-level doors were closed, but a ladder led up the side to the open door of the barn's loft.

ORB1

ORB1 appeared and docked itself in Enseth's port.

It reported: Mission: Scout town designated: Julkoun. Mission Accomplished! Findings: Creatures identified as 'Hobgoblins', 'Goblins' and 'Bugbears' spotted at various locations. Town designated belonging to humans. Therefore conclusion: Under Occupation. Additional evidence: Spotted section of collapsed/destroyed palisade. (North West Side). Query: Successful Siege? Answer: Probable.

Search for Humans (Prisoners?) commenced. None seen outside in town (Querry: In buildings? Answer: Inconclusive). Wider search parameters. Humans found. Nine miles north by north-east. Clarification: North of area designated: Forest. Additional creatures: 'Goblins', 'Worgs'. Humans in chains with shovels, digging at base of hill. Conclusion: Enslaved work force. (Querry: All the Humans? Answer: Unlikely.)

Continued search until Recalled.

Further Information: No Thayans found.

Enseth shares his informations with his friends.

"We should start by the working area. If we manage to free those prisoners without alerting the town, we could profit from some reinforcement and get a significant tactical advantage."

Angis noted the barn. He made his way carefully over to it and quietly up the ladder. Why had they left this one building standing?

Legend
Angis

The loft was moderately packed with hay, and the wooden boards creaked under Angis' feet. He glanced down. Something bothered him about the floor of the loft. It was good, solid wood from the local forest, but it seemed poorly constructed as it shook nearly imperceptibly under his weight. He didn't see or hear any goblins, or hiding humans, though.

Back behind one of the burnt-out cottages, the elf Maingalad announced quietly to the Daggerfordians, "Your friend the dwarf seems to being climbing into that humble building. Would you like one or two of us to follow?"

Tommi taps Enseth on the shoulders, or rather where the shoulders should be. "We can do this," he says with a nod and a wink. He then heads off following Angis.

OOC: Cast Guidance on Enseth (+1d4 to next skill check).
Stealth: [roll0].

Dry sticks crack below his feat, and Tommi curses aloud.

Drui questions the nature of the groups' strategies, making some decisions for the future - things he'd save for himself for a long while before they actually turned into concrete realities. He nods to Enseth and goes down, following both Angis and Tommi, attempting as much silence as possible.

"Maingalad, I'm afraid this attempt of a subtle and low-key approach will soon become a direct assault on the town forces. We should go with them, as you suggested."

Suddenly, Enseth felt a tap on his shoulder. A living being touched him and not with a blade for once... It was warm and soft. The feeling was instantly inscribed in his unfailing memory. The Shield Guardian tried to say something, but no word could express this new emotion. The only reply Enseth could find in return of such kind gesture was to help as much as he could by augmenting the boy with one of his Arcane Device.

As they approach the town, Enseth sends ORB1 to monitor Angis from a distance (to avoid any disturbances he could create with his heavy footsteps).

OOC: Enseth casts Guidance on Tommi. Guidance: 1D4 = [4] = 4
Stealth: 2D20.LOW(1)-1 = [4, 16]-1 = 3 + Guidance: 1D4 = [3] = 3 (from Tommi) = 6

ORB1:
Perception; Stealth:
2D20.HIGH(1)+3 = [16, 13]+3 = 19
1D20+3 = [19]+3 = 22

Enseth must be at 100ft of ORB1 in order to see trough his eye.

Legend
Tommi & Drui

Drui held the ladder while Tommi climbed up to the loft, to see what Angis was up to. Drui watched the nearest guard tower beyond the palisade. It was hard to tell if the shadowy figures could see him this far away, but he suspected not. At any rate, he had stayed behind the burnt-out buildings on his approach (in case they could see movement) and he was satisfied that no alarm had been raised. Tommi peeked through the loft door to see Angis gently tapping his foot on the loft floor as if testing its construction.

OOC: Does Tommi want to go inside? I'd like Angis to roll a Wisdom Check.

Enseth & ORB1

Enseth sent ORB1 to follow Tommi and Drui, while he followed at a distance with the Elves and the others. Dandin's cart would almost certainly give away their position, and at any rate, the plan seemed to be to gather everyone up and head northward to what ORB1 had reported as a possible labour camp. There was really no need to alert the tower guards.

ORB1 flew over the barn to get a birds-eye view. On the far side of the barn, in the remains of a burnt-out farmhouse, it scanned a peculiar-looking patch of ground, discoloured against the rest of the blackened wood.
