1st edition is the one that propably appeals the most to me, though, if I where at it, I might as well take a look what Diaglo is so enthusiastic about, so OD&D is definitely an option.

the one not listed. OD&D(1974) is the only true game. All the other editions are just a poor imitation of the real thing. Arrrrr. :D

Arrr - ill take Rules Cyclopedia, If i could find a cheap copy - otherwise is basic/expert/companions/masters from the books, cause Arrg-- that wat' I got.
eitherway it ill be in the wicked realms of Glantri, Alfheim and Republic of Darokin, cause again thats what be on my shelves. but not the lands of Aplhatia or Thyatis cause they blow like a whale.

Nothing to do with the fact that my 1st ed books are hand colored with addtional artwork by some young miscreint who did not understand the difference between rule books and coloring books.

1E, but the real 1E, with the combat tables, not THAC0. (With the assumption that we use the old house rule that if you even think about non-weapon combat your character dies on the spot ... only part of the game that was so bizzarly annoying.)

Legend
Red box basic leading into blue box expert with Erol Otis cover art.

No bonus wierdness of 1e/2e stat charts, low level thieves have thief skills they can use with a better than 1/5 shot of success, and no unnecessary NWP analogues.

Simple rules D&D focused on combat and magic. It would be easy to run. Matey. :)

Avast ye scurvy dogs. I voted for 1st ED AD&D but I'd also play basic/rules compendium D&D as well.

Ye can kiss the black spot if ye don't agree. Arrrrr! :D

I voted Moldavy/Cook. I'm on a serious nostalgia kick right now. I agree not much difference between Moldavy/Cook and RC to warrant a different category.

I am teaching my nephew how to play 3.5, and for kicks I pulled out my Moldavy B/E books and character sheets. My nephew was astonished at the complete lack of complexity.
