I like this way better, a straight +1d8 rather than +2d8 if smiting. It's how I was going to run it if our paladin made it to level 11.FYI, everyone, Crawford reversed that initial ruling recently. So it's "back" to being just +1d8 on all hits, no buff to the Smite itself.
Which to be fair is likely the way it should've been ruled all along, and is the way I had ruled it until that first tweet of his. Still, I really wish he was, uh, consistent.

Yeah. Also don't need to give the camp who wants to nerf the Paladin or nerf Divine Smite any more ammo than they've already imagined up ...
