Good idea to explore. And helps to simplify character gen as you pick mythic powers around a theme. That said, a little worried at complexity of implementation vs. just a standalone new class.
The big hit you take in complexity by adding prestige classes is the requirements force players to plan builds. If the requirements and the way you reach them are minimal or flexible, that could be avoided.

Zero issue with complexity here. Tell me more.

I'm not opposed to this as an idea. But what do you see as the benefits over a x per day or x per short rest (5 min or 1 hr version)?
A few benefits I see, in no special order:
  • No other class does it, meaning it immediately stands out and has its own identity
  • It feels more “martial” than a limiter pool like ki or superiority dice. You can’t spam Reap The Whirlwind but you can use it fairly often regardless of how long the day is
  • It feels mythic due to being the sort of thing dragons do, and letting you potentially breath fire every round if you’re extremely lucky

With the way 5E is designed, is there not a reason to use the monk class for this? One of the subclasses did get several of The Book of Nine Swords abilities, after all. It may require some reworking of the base monk class to make it more open to selecting these abilities, but it does provide a chassis to lay to the basic structure onto it as the “mystical” warrior, who isn’t necessarily limited to unarmed combat and no armor - that just may become one of the many options via subclass.

You could use a power structure similar to the Monk, but actually using the Monk class wouldn't work for the same reason you can't make a mythic warrior out of the Fighter class: The Monk has too much baggage with its existing abilities and not enough width to make a mythic warrior just a subclass.

If you have to look at any class's power structure to emulate, the Warlock might be best. A mix of varied at will/always on abilities, powerful base attack, and both short- and long-rest-based abilities.
