[section]Fhanna steps by Sylvain, brandishing her longspear as she brushes by. Another second later, the gored stirge falls to the swamp. Seros takes a few steps forward, taking a defensive position in front of the horses. His sword is at the ready, willing to strike any insect that approaches. Despite the torrid conditions of the heated bog, Drayvin finds the inspiration to sing to his fellow warriors. He confidently rides his horse into the muck and mire. Judging his sword to be rather ineffective, Sylvain stows it back away and procures his bow. Perhaps he will have better success with his new weapon of choice. Caius surveys the swamp for the incoming threats. He takes another shot, but alas it's aim is not true as the arrow gets lost in the deeps of Westerley.

The remaining bugs are undeterred and begin to swarm inwards. The stirge closest to Drayvin lands on his horse, drives his barbed legs into it's back, and inserts the proboscis into the skin. The horse whinnies in fear and pain. A pair of insects drive towards Caius. In the same manor as the one that attacked the horse, Caius feels the pain of the two stirges pierce his skin. Seros' act of defense worked to protect the horses, but maybe not so well for himself. The other pair nimbly evade the less-than-effective swipes of Seros's sword through the air. As Caius before him, the two stirges drive their poisonous nose into his soft flesh.

[/sblock][sblock=OOC]1. I will assume that each player will accept the Inspired Rage bonus, unless noted otherwise as per MerryMortician. Make sure you make note of the mods at the top of your ministats please. :)

2. Screwy, your horse needs a handle animal check DC 10 to keep it from bucking you off. You can make this check untrained as it's DC 10 or less. Handling is a move action, so you can attack too if you'd like after the fact. If you fail the handle check, please roll for a ride check DC 15 to make a soft fall.
Soft Fall: You negate damage when you fall off a mount. If you fail the Ride check, you take 1d6 points of damage and are prone. This usage does not take an action.

3. I am pretty sure that none of these horses are combat trained, but I will handwave that requirement or this encounter has the potential to get real silly real fast. (unless all of you strongly object of course. ;))

4. If the stirges are attached, you may attack them normally. To break free you have to win an opposed grapple check or escape artist check.

5. Caius and Seros, please adjust your ministats for -2 CON.

6. If you guys get actions in before Friday morning, I can do one more combat update on Friday before the 2016 Holiday Slowdown.

7. Concerning Holiday Slowdown 2016, after Friday, my posting will be inconsistent at best until the first week of January.

[section]~ " Gah! Pierdolić, you monstrous bloodsuckers!" the swordsman howled, trying to stay standing even as the quick loss of blood left him woozy in his boots.

How they had found a way through the armored slats of his coat, Seros may never had known, but it made him angry. It enraged him to no end. No ... No, it wasn't just the Stirges. It was that song: That song of war from Drayvin, whose Angel-tongue was now casting imagery of war and blood. Imagery Seros remembered from hardfought battles in Irthos and elsewhere, imagery that a soldier saw every day.

" Burn in Hellfire, you buzzing bastards!"

Without bothering to try and remove their prehensile needles from his body, Seros flipped his sword around and made to stab straight through one of them, shaking with fury and ready to kill in the name of the Saints. ~[/section]

OOC: Uhm, if we accept the Raging Song, that gives a +2 to Con (temporarily). So, technically we're still good at our original HP?

As Drayvin started singing, Fhanna felt her anger surging. She gripped her spear tighter and slogged her way through the swamp water toward where Drayvin sat atop his horse, a stirge greedily feasting off of the animal.

“Die, ye filthy bloodsuckers!” she screamed, her face as red as her hair as she jabbed at the beastie with her spear.

Drayvin uses his knees to stay in the saddle as the horse bucks and whinnies from the stirge's foul bite. Using one hand to calm the horse and pat its neck, Drayvin uses the other hand to take a swing at the stirge with his tebutje. He is continuing his inspired rageFONT]

Given the current state of affairs and the Serious isses that Caius is facing with more than a beasty attached, Sylvain considers his blessings. Getting there in time will be hard but possibly all there is to do. And trying to get a swing at one of the beasties.

Caius Aurelius, Blessed Penitent

Caius feels the stab of each stirge's proboscis, one on the outside of his shoulder and the other on his breast. Blood roars in his ears and surges from his wounds as the unnatural vermin drink deeply of him. Within seconds he feels a terrible thirst, right before the dizziness sets in. The paladin is filled with a singular, primal need to rid himself of the bloodsuckers and he thrashes about. His calloused hands prove no match for the razor-sharp mouths, tearing and bleeding when he pulls mightily against their hold.

[section]Under insect assault, Seros furiously tries to swat away the beasts on him to no avail. Fhanna trudges through the mud, and is able to spear the insect latched onto Drayvin's horse. It squirms for a bit, but remains latched on. Drayvin's calm confidence encourages the horse to not have an all out freak out. He hastily swings at the attached bug, but swings over top. Sylvain sees the sorry stay of Caius, slings his bow over his shoulder and makes his way over, drawing his sword once more in pursuit. Caius thrashes about, but has no luck in removing the foul beastie.

The pair of sleeping stirges remain in their current nap-time state. Fhanna's near-deadly spear and Drayvin's flailing about combine to drive the stirge attacking the skald's horse to fly away in retreat. The remaining sets of insectoids remained attached to their current prey, continuing to suck their victim's blood undeterred for the moment.

@Deepthought, I couldn't get Sylvain there due to the water swamp conditions in M22 and N22 no matter how I figured the routes. You would have missed anyway, so I let him take a move action to put his bow away and another move action to get to M21 while drawing his sword.
@Jago and @MerryMortician, please add two more CON damage each.
@screwylooie, where does the 2 hp come from instead of 1?
