Aelspeth Noromiel, Fledgling Conjurer

Aelspeth, crouched low as she can in the skiff, lurches slightly with the impact. She glances at the water, black as jet, imagining how many men are feeding the sharks at this very moment. She shudders as she recalls, vaguely, some mention of a proverbial footlocker where dead sailors are buried.

"Those ladders look sturdy enough, right?" She stares at Leira, then Qalabash, a beat passing without words. Features painted with earnest concern, she says, "You two lead us into melee. Be wary--the decks may be slick with blood if there was such a slaughter as we've been told. I'll be right behind you."

Aelspeth's idea is for our melee specialists to lead, followed by blasters, and the sneaks bring up the rear--in short, disembark in order with no real shuffling. She is prepared to cast Color Spray on a crowd or Enlarge Person if things get really hairy. She had (naively) hoped that Francis and Arradon might be able to peek around the deck before any fighting began in earnest. That being foiled now, she wants someone capable to watch her back.

OOC, I would prefer to hold my 1st levels until a later encounter and let the rogues set up flanks. Aelspeth doesn't get that. She's smart enough to use Color Spray on a group but will end the conflict as quickly as she can.[/sblock]

"Blubbering poppycock.... my foot!" Francis grits his teeth as he fires a retaliatory shot at the one who hit him. He is amazed that the bolt finally hits his target, but the fish creature barely seems to notice. "You guys go ahead... I have to get this damn thing out of my foot!"

As soon as the boat is near the side of the ship Qalabash lunges for one of the ladders. By chance his hands close round the lower reach of the rope ladder and he begins pulling himself up.

"Last one up's a moldy sea biscuit!"

He's pretty spry for someone his age and he scuttles up the side like he was born to it. Or not the landlubber that he really is.

"I'll cover you," Tamarie briefly explains as the first members of the group begin boarding the Sea Sprite. She raises her crossbow up to her shoulder again and sights out the one she hit before and launches another bolt at it. She hits again, although not dead on as one might hope, and immediately reaches into her quiver to reload.

Stunning Fist: You must declare that you are using this feat before you make your attack roll (thus, a failed attack roll ruins the attempt). Stunning Fist forces a foe damaged by your unarmed attack to make a Fortitude saving throw (DC 10 + 1/2 your character level + your Wis modifier), in addition to dealing damage normally. A defender who fails this saving throw is stunned for 1 round (until just before your next turn). A stunned character drops everything held, can’t take actions, loses any Dexterity bonus to AC, and takes a –2 penalty to AC. You may attempt a stunning attack once per day for every four levels you have attained (but see Special), and no more than once per round. Constructs, oozes, plants, undead, incorporeal creatures, and creatures immune to critical hits cannot be stunned.

Dragon Style: While using this style, you gain a +2 bonus on saving throws against sleep effects, paralysis effects, and stunning effects. You ignore difficult terrain when you charge, run, or withdraw. You can also charge through squares that contain allies. Further, you can add 1-1/2 times your Strength bonus on the damage roll for your first unarmed strike on a given round.

Dragon Ferocity: While using Dragon Style, you gain a bonus on unarmed strike damage rolls equal to half your Strength bonus. When you score a critical hit or a successful Stunning Fist attempt against an opponent while using this style, that opponent is also shaken for a number of rounds equal to 1d4 + your Strength bonus.

Qalabash climbed up the wooden ladder without any worries, and Arradon helped Leira climb up onto the deck via the rope ladder. Tamarie and Francis John both struck the injured sahuagin, but didn't kill it, though they made it plenty angry. Aelspeth took cover and tried not to make herself a target.

The sahuagin fired at Francis John and Tamarie in retaliation, before bubbling angrily at the site of the new attackers now sharing their deck.

Qalabash rips his quarterstaff from its bindings as soon as his feet hit the deck. A bolt whizzed past him and down into the boat below and he heard neither a splash nor a thud into wood.

"Is everyone still alive down there?" he calls.

Soon, however, his attention is fully engaged with the Sahuagin in front of him and he sweeps out with his staff trying to take the Sahuagin off his feet. As an afterthought he steps aside so that others can come up behind him (hoping that he isn't further exposing them to missile attacks as they climb).

The elf woman looks to her side where an arrow protrudes from Tamarie. The celestial accent, the otherworldly features, the alien demeanor...What blood runs through your veins, I wonder?

"We'll get you patched up in a moment!" Aelspeth offers as warmly as she is able, under the circumstances. She looks then to Arradon and nods her gratitude. Her lips tighten into a thin line and her pale skin drains of what little color it possessed. Steeling herself, she rushes forward and attacks the rope ladder. Wooden rungs gone white with salt seem to fall away as she scampers up to the Sea Sprite's deck above.
