Manzanita said:Somac and Nurlan begin digging around in the remains of the wagon. Easily found is a fine longsword. Nurlan soon unearths a silver-inlaid heavy crossbow which also seems to be of fine quality. Somac finds many smashed bottles and crates and is about to give up when he notices one of the bottles is unbroken. The label identifies it as a Monemvassian wine, about 6 years old. Rinaldo descends on the rope and notes that the wine is of excellent quality, worth about 20 gps back in Orsussus.
Rinaldo also digs about amidst the rocks and broken planks. In a few minutes he comes up with a small black box. Opening it, he finds a chess set with pieces made of gold and silver. He figures it is worth some 200 gps.
Tor sucessfully retrieves his javelins.
Nurlan picks up the crossbow and handles it. "Hey, this is nice! I could probably use it. I expect it will do better than my old bow. If I take this, anybody want a used shortbow? I'd take the sword too, if I were better trained with that kind of weapon. Anybody want it? Somac, Tor? You'd probably be able to do great things with a sword like this. I wonder what its previous owner used to do with it. Maybe it's killed ogres and trolls before. Or ghouls. I now know how hard they can be to deal with. I'm sure this sword has been used in many heroic deeds, which will never be sung because its owner died in an avalanche." He is downcast at the thought of valor that the bards never got a chance to celebrate, because what good are great deeds if there are never any great songs about them?
