Somac and Nurlan begin digging around in the remains of the wagon. Easily found is a fine longsword. Nurlan soon unearths a silver-inlaid heavy crossbow which also seems to be of fine quality. Somac finds many smashed bottles and crates and is about to give up when he notices one of the bottles is unbroken. The label identifies it as a Monemvassian wine, about 6 years old. Rinaldo descends on the rope and notes that the wine is of excellent quality, worth about 20 gps back in Orsussus.

Rinaldo also digs about amidst the rocks and broken planks. In a few minutes he comes up with a small black box. Opening it, he finds a chess set with pieces made of gold and silver. He figures it is worth some 200 gps.

Tor sucessfully retrieves his javelins.

Nurlan picks up the crossbow and handles it. "Hey, this is nice! I could probably use it. I expect it will do better than my old bow. If I take this, anybody want a used shortbow? I'd take the sword too, if I were better trained with that kind of weapon. Anybody want it? Somac, Tor? You'd probably be able to do great things with a sword like this. I wonder what its previous owner used to do with it. Maybe it's killed ogres and trolls before. Or ghouls. I now know how hard they can be to deal with. I'm sure this sword has been used in many heroic deeds, which will never be sung because its owner died in an avalanche." He is downcast at the thought of valor that the bards never got a chance to celebrate, because what good are great deeds if there are never any great songs about them?

"Glad to see that you are up and about Nurlan. I'll take your shortbow if you are not using it. Could use a ranged weapon if I ever run out of these scrolls." says Tenebrynn.

Seeing everyone is taken care of, and that his wound is just a scratch compare to the other, he starts to search the wagon, finding some interesting things.

While searching, Rinaldo speak to himself "Savage Orcs, bandits, dragon and now undeads. When my wife will learn about that, I think all those creature will be nothing compare to her fury..."

He finally dig the small box.

"I doubt that caravan was victim of a robbery. Too much item are still lying around, and using a avalanche on the wagon is not a good way to preserve your loot. Looking at what we have found, I would guess it was a wine merchant, as there is many broken bottle, escorted by some mercenary, as the weapon are too fine quality for normal guards. What I find strange, it is there is no body. They must have fallen to those undead..."

Rinaldo listen to Nurlan.

"Master Bard, nice to have someone with such a high spirit. For the case of the object found. I see no problem for you taking them, as long as the other agree. And for that wine and chess pieces, they worth over 200 gold piece as a whole. I suggest just to keep it and sell it when we will have some chance."

"Thank you for the offer, Nurlan, but I'll stick with my chain. It's quite a find though, and I'm glad we spent the time to look for it. Even so, we still don't know the source of that alarm -- a goblin attack squad could be on its way at this very moment, counting on the ghouls to delay us until they get here. We should either heal up and make ourselves ready for an attack, or else withdraw to a place of greater safety. Perhaps your Bardic training has included healing magic?"

Nurlan shakes his head. "Music is an excellent way to cure wounds of the spirit. But I have never figured out how to cure this kind of wound" (he points to where the first ghoul had clawed him). "For that, I ask my more religiously minded friends to put in a good word for me with the great Lady of Song. Speaking of which, Charlarn, are we all well enough in the good graces of the Searcher to restore us after that harrowing battle?"

"Thank you, Nurlan, but I'd prefer to stick with my greatsword for now. However, the sword does appear to be very finely made. I suggest we keep it and let one of the more magically inclined among us check it for magic."

"I have to agree with you, Rinaldo. My people in the north make a delicious drink of fermented grains, which I prefer. I have tried wine, but it is too sweet and strong for me."

"As for the chess set, I have heard of this game, but never seen it played. The board reminds me of a game we played as children. We would draw a similar field of squares in the snow, and place different colored rocks in them. The rules were pretty simple, and you won by having the most rocks on the field at the end of 10 turns."

Charlarn of Phyrah: Male human cleric 2

Nurlan carefully inches his way toward Charlarn to see if the cleric is OK. He's still singing, inspiring courage for what it's worth, but as soon as he's at Charlarn's side he'll stop it to ask, "Are you alright?" and looking for signs of life.
Once the paralysis wears off, Charlarn scrambles around looking frantically for his weapon. Once he realizes the ghouls are all down, he calms down. "I'm fine, I think. Is anyone else hurt? Nurlan, how are you feeling? I'm sorry I couldn't help you. How did we live?"

Tenebrynn rushes over to Charlarn's side to check on him. "Charlarn, are you okay?" He says to his friend, seeing that he is conscious. Helping him to his feat, Tenebrynn suggests that the four of them at the very least remove themselves from the rockslide to better treat their injuries.
"We should leave. Who knows if there are more ghouls around here."

Once they get to a safer place, he'll spontaneously cast cure light wounds (1d8+2) in place of bless on Somac. Then one in place of detect undead (Don't think he'll need that :) ) on Tor. And one in place of hide from undead on Ashar. He has a couple scrolls of cure light wounds (1d8+1), which he can also use if the party believes it necessary.

Cleric Spells Prepared (4/3+1: save DC 13 + level):
0–detect magic, guidance (2), light;
1–bless, detect undead, hide from undead, sanctuary*.

OOC: Did Charlarn's Knowledge (undead) check allow him to know about ghoul fever?

Nurlan lifts his hand to his bleeding face. "Well, I'm still losing a little blood up here, but I'll be alright. We did well to choose our companions. These are valiant men, and we will be safe with the likes of Somac and Tor fighting our foes."

He returns to the trail to pick up his pick, throwing the crossbow over his shoulder. "This thing doesn't use normal arrows, so I won't be able to use it until we get to town."

Manzanita, I'm assuming "of fine quality" means masterwork? I'll add the heavy crossbow to my character sheet as soon as you confirm.

"Wise words. And I doubt we will find anything else from that site."

Rinaldo slowly climb back the hill, helped with the rope. When the last one have climb back on the road, Rinaldo untie the rope and roll it. He grabs the rod that is floating, and push the button, and put it back at his side.

"That item is remarkable. I do not know what wizard have thought to create that, but he was brillant. Whose rope it is?"
