“Docks it is then.” The pilot grunts, stubbing her cigar on the cab’s rim and stuffing the remains behind her ear. She cracks her knuckles once and the cab lurches forward suddenly, making it a few yards before promptly stalling.

“Khyber’s balls… hold on a minute.” She gets out of the car, gives it a good kick, and vaults over the door just as the cab accelerates so violently any unprepared passengers are rammed up against the seats.

The Cab arcs forward over the cliff that gives the district its name and begins to plummet down to the docks so fast you suspect the cab may just be freefalling. The cabby for her part is still climbing over the front seat trying to reach the cockpit as the ground looms ever closer. She pauses briefly cursing as her foot gets stuck on some black, sticky substance smeared over the front of the chair… the ground is close now, you can make out the people milling around below. Ogres, goblins, bugbears and other nocturnals mostly, though you make out the occaisional member of the common races milling around. One particularly attentive elven lad looks up and begins to scream… fortunately the cabby has finally reached the front and begun to pull up. The cab begins to slowly alter its trajectory and after a few seconds of sheer terror it becomes obvious your not going to die horribly. There is a horrible bang as the bottom of the cart strikes what may be someone’s chimney and you are still careening along at breakneck speed, but the immediate danger has been passed.

As you fly over the docks, drawing ever closer to the blaze Yolanda d’Medani kindly pointed out to you, you notice the rapidly gathering crowds of people running to the blaze. Aside from workers, merchants and sailors running around trying to form bucket-chains or safeguard their wares (a fire in the largely wooden docks was a threat to everyone after all) you also see a not insignificant number of dragonmarked. Unlike the others, the marked appear to be just watching the blaze almost paralysed with some kind of bizarre fascination.

The blaze itself has spread to about four houses now, though only one house (presumably the origin point of the explosion) is being thoroughly consumed. The other three buildings (warehouses mostly) are only partially burning and the impromptu fire fighters seem to be concentrating their efforts on these salvageable structures.

The original building, which appears to be a warehouse converted into a residency of some description, is being largely left alone. Aside from the small crowd of dragonmarked watching the blaze from a safe distance and the occaisional wary glances from the fire fighters to see if the blaze will spread any further people seem to be pointedly avoiding it. Judging by the way the fire is tearing its way through the building it will probably collapse before the night is done.

The cab screeches to a halt just the other side of the crowd. "End of the line strangers, I ain't taking old Rushty into that. Two silver if you please." You can feel the intense heat of the inferno even from out here. Going inside that deathtrap without some kind of protection would be... unwise to say the least.

It's hard to make out through the smoke and flames, but you definately see shadows inside. Two figures on the upper floor, darting about at lightning speeds. You think they're locked in combat but it's difficult to be sure, in any case the flames don't seem to be impeding them significantly.[/sblock]

Silvanon Rogue 1, hp: 7/7

Silvanon tosses 2 silver at the driver and spits,"You should owe US for that trip -- learn how to drive, cretin."

Silvanon Spot Check (1d20+3=17)

"I think I see something up there -- could be some fighting going on, not sure though. And I'm not too sure I'd want to be in that inferno either..."

Weapon perfunctorily pays the attendent. The ride was an... interesting experience. Being smashed to pieces was not one of the ways he had considered as an ending for him.

Uncharacteristically, Weapon notices something in the burning building. "There are others in the flames. However, getting to them may be a challenge."

"Hmm...those flames look dangerous. Do the people look like they need our help? They could have an important clue, as that seems the most chaotic and salient thing in the area...Still, I do not think we have anything that offers the appropriate protections against a full-scale inferno."

"Weapon, how are the two within doing, what are they doing, and where are they with respect to openings on the edge of the flames?"
Alysina gets a bit more businesslike as she rattles off those questions, "Meanwhile, well, we'll see what we can do..."

You watch on as the fire rages, The two shadows flickering within the upper floor of the building suggesting at survivors but nothing coming out. The few gawkers who haven’t been shanghaied into the fire fighting effort seem to be doing little but standing and watching, muttering to themselves and exchanging gossip…

“Fascinating… are you sure that’s the place from the vision?”

“…positive. Look at the architecture, and the timing of the fire…”

“I say, do you think it’s that Sivis Excoriate? I heard he…”

“…no he was never formally disowned but there was rumours of a scandal…”

“Something about explosio-"

The conversation is interrupted by a loud screaming noise and the door to the inferno is blasted off it’s hinges as a tiny figure runs past at a full sprint. It appears to be a middle aged gnome, dressed in what was once a fine glammerweave robe but is now little more than burnt rags. A least mark of scribing is branded upon his left arm, though the mark itself appears to be partially obscured by severe burns. Aside from the mark, he is badly burnt all over but not as much as you’d expect considering the intensity of the blaze. He appears to be clutching some kind of jewel encrusted black box under his arm.

Pursuing him out of the entrance less than a second later, a swarm of chittering shadows emerges, brandishing various bladed weapons and chanting war cries in high pitched draconic. The firelight reveals gleaming scales, a mixture of dull yellow and gleaming gold… they appear to be kobolds of some description. In any case you count six of them, bearing down upon the gnome with intent to kill. If you do not intervene the gnome will be dead long before he can reach the safety of the crowd.

OOC: If you wish to get involved in a combat capacity, role for initiative. Note that those who spotted the two figures on the upper floor can still make them out, they still appear to be locked in intense combat.

"Well, that makes things just a mite easier. The kobolds seem intent to kill--we should stop them so that we can question the gnome."

(OOC: Init 12. Alysina will Colour Spray if she can move to hit multiple kobolds with the 15-foot cone. DC 14 and all that.)

OOC: Assuming you're standing with the crowd, about 30 feet away. Our gnomish friend will make it to the crowd on his next turn, but he'll take AOOs from three of the kobolds, which given his condition will be enough to put him out. There a three kobolds in contact with the gnome, and three more 20 feet behind (so 50 ft from you). Since neither the kobolds nor the gnome are paying much attention to you you get a surprise round on them if you act fast.

(OOC: Technically, it wouldn't count as a surprise round if combat was already in action and a third party entered that the others didn't notice

Also, any reason the gnome can't just withdraw from his square? If they were all behind him, he should be able to do so)
