J Jhaelen First Post Dec 18, 2008 #11 I'm not sure if it's correct by RAW or not, but it doesn't appear to break anything. When I'm advancing monsters I even grant them additional caster levels for free (1/2HD). It helps to let the spellcasting powers stay relevant.

Several beasties can advance to fairly buff HD, but their SLAs languish, and you end up with an advanced 36 HD astral deva that casts spells as a 12th level Sorcerer.
