Shovel. Broad, flat metal blade on a long wooden handle.

As Slade started trying to pry the door open, Alecto hurried to Grub's side to get the shovel from him.

"That'll work fine," she assures him, with a little pat on the shoulder. "I'll give it right back." With that, Alecto goes to the door to help Clyde out.

Deathvine steps back as the others approach with various implements to pry and pick at the edge of the ancient portal. The plant readies its scythe in case anything comes trundling out once they get the thing open.

Clyde, with Alecto's help, works the crowbar into the doorjam. There are a few minutes of prying and pulling and then, with a snap, the door opens. The hinges shriek in protest but the thick door swings into the spider chamber.

Light, a bit brighter than torchlight spills into the chamber. You each also feel a wave of warmth, several degrees warmer than the chamber you are in.

The room beyond the door is 10 feet wide and 20 feet long, with a ceiling of about 8 feet high. It is a drab green in color, with the floor, walls, and ceiling comprised of 5 feet square panels. Three small cages, similar to the one above the door, are set into the ceiling at intervals each containing dark broken orbs of glass.

To the right of the door, near the ceiling, you see a small square opening is set into the wall, its front covered with slat like bars.

The light source stands in the center of the room. It is a large yellow glowing crystal, rectangular, roughly hewn, about four foot tall and the width of a man. It glows, emitting steady light and heat.

Arranged in a circle on the floor around the crystal are what appear to be eggs. There are 10, each about 1 foot in diameter. Their surfaces are green, flecked with orange-brown spots. They are attached to the floor with what looks like a sticky green membrane.

Otherwise, the room looks bare. There are a few pieces of glass and metal on the floor, but the room is otherwise free of debris.

At the opposite end of the room is another door, similar to the one you have just opened.

Grub stands a little straighter when Alecto uses his shovel to help pry open the door. And then he stands uncertainly peering past Alecto and Clyde at the odd egg chamber. "Umm, we go in now?" He hesitates, though. He's never seen tech like this before. "Eggs is good, yup?"

Deathvine moves into the warm room in the hopes of figuring something out before Grub takes a bite out of something. When the plant heres a speculation of poison, its curiosity is peaked and it moves forwad to have a long deep sniff. "Mmm we don't know if these are poisonous, but we are really enjoying this lovely light."

"I suggest we take them on the way out, rather than the way in," Alecto points out. "That way, if we confront the creature that laid them further inside, we won't have to explain why we've got her eggs in our packs."

She walks over to the crystal and hunkers down to get a closer look, far more interested by the apparent tech than by the eggs around it.

"I don't think the spider laid these. That door doesn't seem like it's been opened in a long time."

Deathvine's "nose" can confirm that the source of the odd scent was indeed these eggs. However, if they contain some toxic substance, it is odorless and not detectable by his ability.

Alecto can see nothing connected to the crystal. It stands free on the ground and is made of many large facets. Its slowly glows almost like the flame of a candle and lets off heat at a steady rate. It also makes no apparent sound. Getting closer to the heat source is not uncomfortable, nor does it appear that the heat level this close is dangerous.

Now I bet that rock there would be worth something.

Clyde rubbed his chin and licked his lips like a man considering an imprudent action.

Don't like those egg things though, he glanced around warily, if the spider didn't lay them, what did...

Think we ought to destroy them, don't want anything unpleasant coming out. Least open one, see what we've got.

"Anything that comes out will be small..."

Alecto looked away from the glowing crystal to Slade.

"Lets hold off on breaking them. We don't know if the creature that laid them has a mind or not. I'd really rather not have to explain to someone that we killed her egg because we were afraid of the tiny little hatchling that might come out."

She smirks. "Especially after breaking into her house."

The replicant stood up and dusted off her knees briskly. Little mannerisms that made it easy to forget she was other than human.

"Lets poke around more before we do anything we can't undo."
