Put my +2 in str and +1 in Con. So here is my initial draft still missing Language,Instrument and the origin of my rival.
Raghnall Ursidae
Height 6ft 2
Weight 130lbs
Hair Dark Brown
Eyes Grey
Skin Pale
Notable features Ritual scars covering his body.

Raghnall lived a happy life in the Jiüanti steppe moving with the seasons to allow the cattle ample grazing, occasionally heading to war it was a good life and Raghnall was became a mighty warrior, perhaps the mightiest in the steppe. Raghnall did not flaunt his combat prowess however in fact he Raghnall disliked killing he found it wasteful to throw ones life away and would offer mercy whenever he could this set him apart from his brethren who relished in killing. On the occasions Raghnall has to kill he takes part in the ritual of Swazond marking him carrying the weight of his kills forward with him.

Things changed when one day a man from a far off land appeared where his tribe was currently camped he stayed with Raghnall's people for some time learning from there culture and Raghnall picked up some of his strange tong. On the day this stranger from a strange land left the tribal camp he challenged Raghnall to a sparing match and thoroughly trounced him. Ever since that day Raghnall has become obsessed with becoming stronger so he could track down and beat this stranger in armed Combat, so Raghnall set of to this strange place of Ashwall hearing of the things beneath a perfect opportunity to gain strength.

Ok so feel free to talk me through any amendments or issues.

As for traits I would be interested in using his shield as more of a weapon than a defensive tool.

I'll tentatively allow it. It's on the more powerful mechanically side of things, but it's a hit point. I'll allow you to start with the pistol as far as firearms go, a musket can be acquired but is quite expensive to start with. I'll be using the renaissance items list from the DMG.

Pistol, 250gp, 1d10 piercing, 3 lb.; Ammunition (range 30/90), loading.

Bullets (10), 3gp, 2 lb.

The Artificer Specialist: Gunsmith creates their own weapon called Thunder Cannon. It's their signature feature. If that's not acceptable, let me know and I'll rework the character into something more preferred.

Tong should be tongue probably. That took me a second. :p

This should work fine. If you don't speak Kianni, which is fine, you may have trouble communicating with most people around Ashwell. That's thematically appropriate though to some degree, and I think someone could act as your "translator" or "handler" more or less.

Note that what I'm looking for right now is to get all the "prototype" character sheets together, then I'll go over them and sort of compare them to bring them together approximately an even level. I want to see them side by side first though so I can think through where I want to take the game with those characters and where the players will want to go.

As for languages I did have Kianni but swapped it out. If it's thematic all the better!

Still short an instrument.

If you go without it, then it's quite a bit like the traveler who visited your people that bested you and learned your language then left, and now you travel in a strange land where you don't know their language but you can speak with your axe. I think that's viable. The only trick is it would help if at least one party member knows your actual language, possibly.
