The whole point of prophecy, narratively, is to mess with the characters and/or audience by making them think they know what's going on. The obvious interpretation is almost never the real one (barring a double bluff), and there are plenty of ways in a fantasy world for someone to draw their last ever breath and yet be alive afterwards.

My money's on time travel.
