Now if you can do a whole campaign setting for 4e with a first edition feel...

I have only been playing for 20 years or so... and that means i came in at the end of 1st. What IS first edition feel... and has there ever been a published campaign that felt like that?

For me 1st edition was very random dungeons strung together because it was 5 10 year olds making stuff up... and i am not sure that’s exactly what i want... hehe

I am so geeked to support 4E, I can't even tell you... And just wait till you see who is going to be helping me with this.
Vin Deisel!

Stephen Colbert!

Ernest Borgnine!

Wait. I don't think that's the right D&D-playing Ernie... :(

Some people say it's like porn -- you know it when you see it. ;) However, to me it's defined as:

1. Primarily Western European fantasy with occasional elements of something else thrown in.
2. Elements that are occasional puns or less serious elements hidden in the game. In some old 1e modules, Gygax's name was hidden in the layout of a map, or you might find a "wand of force" treasure that worked suspiciously like a Star Wars Lightsaber.
3. There were puzzles and challenges sometimes worked into the game which required a bit of puzzle smarts from the players, as opposed to the character. A puzzle might be a variation of the old "chicken, feed, fox, and river" puzzle, or a riddle to solve.
4. Occasionally there were challenges that could not be solved by brute force or puzzle smarts, but needed to be retreated from, as a way to indicate that the world was sometimes bigger than just the PCs.

There are other elements, but these always stood out to me. It was sometimes a style that recognized that it was a game than some other styles of play.

I just tried searching on the forums for a good "what is 1st edition feel" thread, but my search-fu is lacking currently.
