It's no big deal. Contests are a time-honored way of getting the best at something.
Guys, the point isn't whether it is or isn't a Contest. I consider it a contest on a personal level, because I am competing with 10 to 20 thousand other applicants for a chance to make 100 grand. It acts like a contest, it looks like a contest. But it isn't.
This isn't a case of, "looks like, smells like, must be."
It is a open call for submissions, which many companies do, in which they have a set paycheck for those who they ultimately choose to use.
The point is not whether it is a contest or not. The point is whether its "legally" a contest. You can call it what you want based on how it makes you feel or what it looks like. But legally... it isn't a contest. Legally its a job application.
