RPG Crowdfunding News – Mag of Holding, Between the Devil & the Deep, The Goblings, and more

This week, I look at RPG Kickstarters that end between December 16th and the 21st. It’s a tight time frame with a number of RPGs sliding in under the Christmas deadline. This time of year sees an increase in the number of quickstarters (campaigns that fund over the course of two weeks) and longstarters (those that push two months in length). Each is trying to work around the holiday season. As such, I’m covering more quickstarters that interest me and leaving the longstarters for later on. As always, this is not an exhaustive list of RPG crowdfunding campaigns, but a summary of some that interest me including several D&D campaigns, a GUMSHOE offering, some system neutral content, and more.

Mag of Holding - Breath of the Feywild - Book for 5e from Penny Dragon Games

• WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? Offering fantasy 5e content, the Mag of Holding magazines give you a lot of themed content done with an eye towards the layout. This issue’s theme puts the emphasis on the fey delivering over 100 pages of archfeys, familiars, fey settings, spells, and more including world building section called “War of Worldcraft”. Between the Devil & the Deep GUMSHOE RPG from Sons of the Singularity LLC

Set in the late 17th century across the whole of the Caribbean, this RPG lets you play as fantastic pirates with cannons and magic. Bending the GUMSHOE system to their needs, this RPG lets you create characters, adventure as a pirate, and participate in ship combat. More importantly, there’s magic to use in this world of historic fantasy. If you’re looking for a pirate RPG with a known system, this one is worth checking out.

• WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? If you play D&D of any stripe, this book is built for you and a good resource to streamline one of the longer parts of character builds: Starting equipment. Figuring out what your character’s starting equipment list should be may involve some serious counseling or perhaps some waving house rules, especially with OSRs. If you’re looking for a solution, this book offers suggestions and tables to make your character’s equipment a pleasant part of the RPG experience.

Drop Dead City from Vivid Worlds

Legacy of Mana 5E World Guide, Immersive Map Book & Novel from Lynnvander Studios RPG

• WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? This campaign offers three books, each presenting aspects of the Legacy of Mana setting. This world is focused on reinventing aspects of the standard fantasy world to be more mystical while leaning into steampunk at the same time. Legacy of Mana is the over 300-page 5e setting guide that gives all of the new rules for this world. Immersive Map Book gives you 30 highly detailed maps creating a lot of settings to play in this world. This book should lay flat to give you the most use from the maps. Strands of Destiny is a 400 page novel by Josh Vogt, which gives you a better sense of this world through fiction. If you’re looking for a revised world of magic, try out their campaign page.
