Well, not a critical fumble, but nearly!

“I got flyers!” Alenysturathe called to the others. She leapt up into the air and her strong wings pushed her charging toward the gargoyles attacking the refugees. She roared as she approached, opening her mouth and spewing a cone of fire.

[sblock=OOC]She’s trying to catch as many of the gargoyles as she can. What’s her distance to them? Also, do I have size penalties for the gargoyles?[/sblock]

GM: Hmm normally yes as at Size 4 is where the cut off is BUT I will say that Alenys is only -1 as they are Size 3. She can probably get two of them in the cone this round. A 4 on the Fear check is all you needed :). For the DBees she had heard that they are called the Cless and that they are peaceful nomadic peoples found mostly in the western parts of the Old US Empire. Especially around what was once called Montana and Wyoming.

Well, then those are both 1s they need to evade, then LOL Not difficult.

OOC: Dawn Spirit check vs. Fear: 1D8.OPEN(8) = [8, 6] = 14

Dawn is extremely not frightened!

"Aw, shitfire." Dawn looked down at her rifle, knowing it wouldn't so much as scratch their hide, and took a chance on the pump pistol, drawing it. As she chambered a round, she activated the smartgun system in her helmet, specially calibrated for the color palette and level of detail that she saw the world with, and let it help guide her hand as she sighted and fired.

OOC: Penetrating MDC 9 with a 2d6+1 gun will be tricky, so Dawn will make a called shot to try and get one of the gargoyles on the ground. Called shot for a wing is a limb, so that's -2, and the smartgun system that she got from a random chargen roll adds a +2, cancelling each other out.

Dawn Shooting roll.: 1D6.OPEN(6)+2-2 = [1]+2-2 = 1

Dawn Wild die.: 1D6.OPEN(6) = [5] = 5

A 5 hits, assuming it's close enough for the gun's range.

Pump pistol damage.: 2D6.OPEN(6)+1 = [6, 4, 4]+1 = 15

Nice damage roll though!

As Dawn ejected the spent shell, she activated her cyber-armor and took cover as best as she could. "Get out the biggest damn guns you can find! Those things are tough! Gargoyles, damn, hell're they doin' out here? Damn rifts..." She nodded to the d-bees. "Promise: I'll protect you, best as I can. Tell me that gun makes a big, big hole in whatever y'all shoot it at."

Deezy is up on her feet, and scrambles for the ostentatiously oversized bulk of the Omniblaster at once. She darts for cover and leans out to brace the weapon against her shoulder. The end lights up, and blasts of magical force begin howling through the night at the lead gargoyle!

The shots walked across the hulking demon, plinking off its armored chest until the last shot of the burst struck directly on its face!

Onslaught attack: 1D10.OPEN(10) = [5] = 5
1D6.OPEN(6) = [1] = 1
1D10.OPEN(10) = [2] = 2
1D6.OPEN(6) = [1] = 1
1D10.OPEN(10) = [2] = 2
1D6.OPEN(6) = [5] = 5
1D10.OPEN(10) = [10, 9] = 19
1D6.OPEN(6) = [4] = 4

(So the 5's should hit, and the 19 is a raise...)

Onslaught damage: 3D6.OPEN(6) = [3, 4, 2] = 9
3D6.OPEN(6) = [3, 4, 2] = 9
4D6.OPEN(6) = [5, 6, 4, 6, 5, 4] = 30

(lol...so two plinks and one BIG GIANT HIT)

Alenys, with a roar, transforms into her dragonform and takes to the sky to unleash a burst of fire at the creatures but the two she was aiming for easily avoid the flames. Dawn pulls out a pump pistol and strikes the larger gargoyle in the middle but its hide seems unusually tough, which Deezy discovers seconds later!! While one of her blasts strikes the demon thing it seem to shrug it off with a roaring laugh!! Marcus gets into a kneeling position and slaps come random parts together to project a semi-transparent wall in front of the refugees directly in the path or the monsters. The two dog boys also jump to their feet, drawing their vibroblades and yelling at the refugees, trying to restore some order to their panic!!!

The largest of the gargoyles lands some yards from Dawn and Deezy and bleaches a gout of flame at Dawn and Deezy!!! The gargoyle that is carrying what appears to be a light railgun blasts away at Alenys, hitting her once but the projectile bounced off her draco-hide. The last gargoyle heads for the closes refuges, smashing into Marcus’s force wall! Its claws smash through a middle section as the creature roars with pleasure and starts pushing its way into towards where a group of paralyzed refugees screams in fear!!!

GM: [sblock=Rolls]As the gargoyles only need a 1 to avoid there is no way they can fail, so they both make their Agility checks to avoid the Cone affect.
Dawn hit but the damage is below the Gargoyle Mage’s Toughness
Deezy forgot her Fear (spirits) check but she can make it this round, just assuming the adrenalin was affecting her first round. She hit three times, the last one 9 over the Gargoyle Mage’s Toughness (would cause 2 wounds and shaken), so he will use a personal Benny (he is now down to 1) to attempt a Soak roll: 1D10.OPEN(10) = [10, 1] = 11; 1D6.OPEN(6) = [6, 4] = 10, made it with a raise so no wounds and not shaken.
Marcus tries a Fear check: 1D8.OPEN(8) = [8, 3] = 11; 1D6.OPEN(6) = [4] = 4, makes it. Then Techno-wizard skill check: 1D10.OPEN(10) = [5] = 5; 1D6.OPEN(6) = [5] = 5, make it casting Stalwart Wall 15” out in front of the refuges where the last Gargoyle is heading. He makes it 5” long (costing him 10 PPE), and each section has 22 MDC toughness rating barrier in front of them.
The Dog Boys make their Fear check: 1D8.OPEN(8) = [6] = 6; 1D6.OPEN(6) = [1] = 1
1D8.OPEN(8) = [2] = 2; 1D6.OPEN(6) = [4] = 4
, they make it but neither has mega-damage ranged weapons so they stay and draw their vibroblade and direct refugees.

Badguys,
Gargoyle Mage flies 12" and leads to casts Greater Burst vs. Dawn and Deezy (Cone area attack), Casting a spell: 1D8.OPEN(8) = [5] = 5; 1D6.OPEN(6) = [5] = 5, Mega-Damage: 3D12.OPEN(12) = [2, 12, 9, 7] = 30. Dawn and Deezy need to make Agility checks vs. 5 or they suffer a 30 damage attack!!!
The gargoyle with the rifle (Mini-Rail Gun) flies up a bit and shots at Alenys, Autofire attack: 1D6.OPEN(6)-2 = [4]-2 = 2; 1D6.OPEN(6)-2 = [1]-2 = -1; 1D6.OPEN(6)-2 = [1]-2 = -1; 1D6.OPEN(6)-2 = [4]-2 = 2 but Wild Card die: 1D6.OPEN(6) = [6, 3] = 9, one hit with a raise; damage with raise: 2D8.OPEN(8)+1D6.OPEN(6)+2 = [5, 6]+[1]+2 = 14, nope not enough (even with AP-6).
The last gargoyle flies 6" and leads to attacks the barrier, Damage from attack: 1D12.OPEN(12)+2D6.OPEN(6)+2 = [7]+[5, 6, 4]+2 = 24, he smashes through one of the section and starts trying to push through but it takes him the whole round.[/sblock]

[sblock=Initiative Cards]Alenys – 2 of Spades
Dawn – Ace of Spade
Deezy – Ace of Clubs

Gargoyle Mage – 2 of Clubs
Gargoyles – 8 of Hearts

Heroes go first!!! Heroes Actions?[/sblock]

The Gargoyle Mage is on the ground, 12” from Dawn and Deezy
The gargoyle with the Railgun is 18” from Alenys, 24" from Dawn and Deezy
The gargoyle smashing through the barrier to get at the refuges is 20” from all the heroes

OOC: Dawn Agility roll: 1D8.OPEN(8) = [2] = 2

Dawn agility reroll: 1D8.OPEN(8) = [4] = 4

Dawn Wild die (Agility roll): 1D6.OPEN(6) = [1] = 1

No success. Dawn takes 12 damage (30 less 18 total armor) which is shaken and 3 wounds.

Spending a Benny to soak:

Dawn Vigor roll to soak.: 1D8.OPEN(8) = [1] = 1

Dawn wild die (soak roll): 1D6.OPEN(6) = [2] = 2

Dawn doesn't soak anything, so she is at three Wounds.

Dawn is engulfed by the blast, seeming vaporized - but she emerges from the flames, fire licking at her silvery fur. Something's wrong with her cyber-armor, and it seems patchy and partially liquified.

"That - " She coughs, a sticky wad of blood flying from her lips. "That supposed - to - I'm outta words."

She runs straight at the gargoyle that burst through the barrier, firing her pump pistol in one hand as she energizes her psi-sword with the other, its shape looking as ragged as the cyber-knight does.

OOC: Can't quite close with the gargoyle with Pace 8 even if I energize the Speed power, so Dawn'll try another shot with the pump pistol.

Dawn attack roll (shooting pump pistol): 1D6.OPEN(6)+2 = [6, 2]+2 = 10 (-3 for Wound is 7)

Success, so here's the damage roll. All mega-damage.

Pump pistol damage roll.: 2D6.OPEN(6)+1 = [5, 5,]+1 = 11

Round 1

Alenysturathe sees Deezy and Dawn get hit hard. She wheels away from the other gargoyles and flies as fast as she can toward them. She opened her maw and shot a gout of flame at the creature.

[sblock=Actions]
Move: Fly 12” toward gargoyle mage. How far am I from it? Assuming I can’t get there in one move.
Action: Shooting firebolt at gargoyle mage: 1D8.OPEN(8)-1 = [5]-1 = 4
1D6.OPEN(6)-1 = [1]-1 = 0

Well that’s a hit. Let’s hope damage gets through.
Firebolt damage: 4D6.OPEN(6) = [4, 3, 3, 5] = 15

Deezy shouts as she keeps her blaster whirring and firing, laying down a carpet of magical blasts that explode in starbursts of flame as they rain across the gargoyle mage!

The fusillade finally winds down, the barrels of the Omniblaster glowing bright orange and slowing down, hissing as they cool in the early morning air.

Another onslaught: 1D10.OPEN(10) = [3] = 3
1D6.OPEN(6) = [5] = 5
1D10.OPEN(10) = [9] = 9
1D6.OPEN(6) = [2] = 2
1D10.OPEN(10) = [2] = 2
1D6.OPEN(6) = [5] = 5
1D10.OPEN(10) = [10, 8] = 18
1D6.OPEN(6) = [6, 6, 4] = 16

So 5, 9, 5, and 18 to hit. 2 hits, and 2 raises, I believe.

another onslaught damage: 3D6.OPEN(6) = [6, 4, 2, 1] = 13
3D6.OPEN(6) = [3, 3, 3] = 9
4D6.OPEN(6) = [2, 1, 3, 5] = 11
4D6.OPEN(6) = [6, 6, 1, 6, 2, 5, 4] = 30

13, 9, 11 and another 30 damage!

Dawn is not able to escape the flames of the gargoyle but she grits her teeth and moving towards it, blasts it again with the pump pistol but the round bounces off the creature’s thick hide. Alenys blasts the creature with a bolt of fire but it seems to ignore the heat as it washes over the creature. Then Deezy blasts it again with multiple blasts from her omniblast and this time one of the last one strikes true and causes the creature too reel back with a roar of rage and pain. Marcus moved forward a bit and flipping some dials on his power glove unleash multiple blast against the gargoyle that was coming through his energy barrier. While many struck true, no pierced the creatures hide. Then the pair of dog boys ran forward with their vibroblades and slashed at the same creature. Only one got past the creatures defenses but it only cut into the hide and drew no blood from the attack.

The larger gargoyle howled with anger and shock off the pain from Deezy’s attack and taking to the air flew over Dawn and Marcus to land next to the small techno-wizard. He slashed at her with its great claw but missed her as she dodged to the side. The gargoyle with the railgun shot multiple bursts at Alenys but they all missed by a mile and the last gargoyle slashed at one of the dog boys but could not get past the mercs defense.

GM: [sblock=Rolls]As Dawn only has 2 wounds, she hit with an 8 which is with a raise. Rolling an extra Raise damage: 1D6.OPEN(6) = [1] = 1, so only 12 damage total, not enough to hurt it.
Alenys hit it with her fire blast but 15 damage is not enough to hurt it.
Deezy shot hit it four times, only one, the 30 damage, hurts it. It how is Shaken and has 2 wounds. NOTE that when Deezy is making multiple attacks like that you only get to roll the Wild Die (1d6) once. So the better way to roll the 4 1d10 rolls and the 1d6 roll separately. Just going forward.
Marcus moves 6” closer and shots the gargoyle coming through his barrier with the Onslaught power, Techno-wizard attack roll: 1D10.OPEN(10) = [6] = 6; 1D10.OPEN(10) = [8] = 8; 1D10.OPEN(10) = [5] = 5; 1D10.OPEN(10) = [10, 1] = 11 and Wild dice roll: 1D6.OPEN(6) = [1] = 1. So he got a 2 normal hits and 2 hits with raises, two normal hits: 3D6.OPEN(6) = [6, 4, 5, 1] = 16; 3D6.OPEN(6) = [2, 3, 1] = 6 and two hits with raises: 4D6.OPEN(6) = [5, 3, 3, 5] = 16; 4D6.OPEN(6) = [4, 3, 1, 1] = 9, but none are high enough to get through the gargoyles toughness!!
The two dog boys then run to engage the same gargoyle. They attack but at -2 because of taking the Run action to get here. Fighting attack roll: 1D10.OPEN(10) = [7] = 7; 1D10.OPEN(10) = [6] = 6.; I forgot to put the -2 for Running but +1 for gang up bonus. So the one that got a 6 hit. Damage from attack: 1D10.OPEN(10)+1D8.OPEN(8) = [7]+[3] = 10, but even with AP-4 not enough to damage it.

Badguys,
The gargoyle mage makes his Spirits vs. Shaken: 1D8.OPEN(8) = [8, 1] = 9; 1D6.OPEN(6) = [2] = 2, made it with a raise. He uses his fly speed of 12” to fly over Dawn and land near Deezy to try and claw her. Fighting attack roll: 1D8.OPEN(8)-2 = [1]-2 = -1; 1D6.OPEN(6) = [3] = 3, missed!
Gargoyle with the railgun shots at Alenys, Shooting attack rolls: 1D6.OPEN(6)-2 = [3]-2 = 1; 1D6.OPEN(6)-2 = [1]-2 = -1; 1D6.OPEN(6)-2 = [2]-2 = 0; 1D6.OPEN(6)-2 = [3]-2 = 1, man did not even come close once!!!
The last gargoyle attacks one of the dog boys Fighting attack roll: 1D8.OPEN(8) = [4] = 4, missed
[/sblock]
[sblock=Initiative Cards]Alenys – Queen of Clubs
Dawn – 4 of Clubs

Gargoyle Mage – 6 of Clubs
