The very well made door still opens easily once the key has done its work. Sunlight and fresh air do much to lift your spirits and drive back the sense of unease that pervades the prison until you realize that you are back on the balcony where you faced the haunted executioners scythe. Your own blood from the fight is still visible mixed with the ancient stains left by past prisoners executed here long ago. At least the smells of damp and rot are muted out here. Nothing moves on the ground below in the prison yard. All is quiet except for a disquieting moaning sound made by the breeze passing under the rotting eaves of the old prison.

Turning your attention to the trap door at the top of the sturdy wood and iron ladder you find no traps and it does not appear to be locked. However, it does not open. A mighty heave might push free whatever is blocking it.

OOC: DC22 Str check required. Note that the door is at the top of a ladder 10' making aid another difficult without some creativity on your parts.
