In paragon levels, you can take feats to improve ac by one, for both shields and armor.

Since both of them are feats , the can not stack so only 1 bonus you may have. ( my idea it looks like )

But isnt it unlogical ?

Cant a player masterise both on shield and armor ?

While the AC doesn't stack, both Feats have secondary uses ... Shield boosts Ref and Armor usually negates penalties. So if you are not only looking for Ac then it is still useful to specialize in both.

It is possible to specialize in both, however you won't get to stack the AC bonuses. However, except for plate specialization, there are other benefits to specialization.

Shield Spec also improves your reflex defense. Scale spec eliminates the speed penalty. Hide and chain spec eliminates the skill check penalties. So, just like taking Quick Draw and Improved Initiative, you get less out of taking both.

When wielding a heavy shield you are already 2 AC ahead of the curve compared to most people in similar armor, and those proficient with heavy shields right off the bat already have some exceptionally good armor they can wear. Letting them get an additional point ahead of people without shields is a bit too much. Basically, it isn't a good idea to give additional AC to the people that already have the most, as the difference in AC between PCs can become a big problem.
