Both Rouse and Slavicsek are no longer with WotC. It's not surprising that different people have different perspectives on the same issues. Also, that happened a few years ago.

They watermark the PDF with your information (e.g. name, email, and customer #), but I believe that's it.

I believe the person uploading the PDF can choose. I would read the product page closely to make sure.

There was a website briefly visible (though obviously under construction) in whic a little of what we speculate to be WotC's new online publishing model was revealed.
Salient points
* The back end of the site appeared to be drivethrurpg
* There were five different file format options, including pdf. I would assume at least one of the others was an e-reader format of some sort, but I'm not familiar with those extension types.
* The domain registry simply lists godaddy (http://who.godaddy.com/whois.aspx?domain=dndclassics.com&prog_id=GoDaddy), registered about a year ago.
