Kyle Brinks is charge of the One D&D team that is creating the 2024 anniversary edition for Wizards of the Coast.

Brinks describes the 2024 edition as something like 5.5, when he compares it to the transition from 3.0 to 3.5.

However, in all cases, the anniversary edition is never said to be "6e".

The designers appear sincere about the 2024 edition being compatible with the 2014 edition.

Perhaps there is a renewed dedication to compatibility, now that the 2014 rules are legally released to the Creative Commons license that is beyond the control of WotC.

The current business strategy of WotC is to be a prominent contributor to the 2014 gaming system, alongside independent contributors.

Most of the differences between 2014 and 2024 are about presenting the 2014 system in a fresh way, such as reorganizing the DMs Guide, using current cultural sensibilities such as "species" instead of "race", and consolidating sprawling or unclear rules such as Ability Checks.

The 2024 Players Handbook will have options that the 2014 Players Handbook lacks, such as new subclasses and tool proficiencies. Generally, there will be updates to incorporate popular content that has been published since 2014.

Nevertheless, I expect it to be possible for a player to use the 2014 Players Handbook at the same D&D table where the other players are using the 2024 Players Handbook.

The DMG needs to provide tools to new DMs, this is what the Perkins is telling us. So Chapter 8 will be a small setting, to give new DMs a place to put dungeons and cities created by the DMs, until will be ready to create or use a setting. What I noticed, is that he is too happy and secretive about this.

Maybe the adventure will be really set in Castle Greyhawk (with your classic 1 floor populated and 1 to stock), and chapter 8 is around it, with some populated hexes to help master start a new campaign?

I don't know if WotC can use the Castle (naturally not the original one) or if there are rights troubles.
I don't know Greyhawk, how big the settings is?

Ok, hear me out... the world of the Nentir Vale pretty much steals the gods and locales of Greyhawk.

What if the Nentir Vale was shoehorned in to the world of Oerth?
with the multiverse thing since Nentir Vale took from both the realms and grey hawk it could be a middle world...

like 15 parallel universes in the multi verse, there are 7 between the realms and grey hawk and dead center is the vale

So where exactly are we with what exactly these new books are?

We were told we cannot call it 5e, nor 5.5e, nor 6e. But now it seems like they are saying it is just a revision of 5e. Jeremy Crawford literally said, 'This is NOT 5th editon or even 5.5. This is very important nuance.... '

What are we allowed to call it now?
See post 4.

Congratulations, everyone! 100% of threads on ENWorld now are focused on whether or not the 2024 books are a new edition of the game! We did it!
