I had it back in 99 over there. I concur.

Canned Tuna on Pizza tastes just like one might expect it to taste. (And I mean that in a bad way).
Canned anything on a pizza is going to taste like it came from a can, or the texture is going to be all wrong. I think the worst offenders are mushrooms and pizza sauce.

The last pizza I ate was a Detroit-style bacon, jalapeno, and pineapple pizza, with a pint of local microbrew on the side. It was a damn fine dinner.

Disagree. Canned mushrooms are far superior on pizza than fresh.

Fresh mushrooms tend to be kinda gummy on pizza to me because of how quick modern pizza ovens cook and they can also get dried out. You don't have either problem with the canned mushroom.

Hot take: can flavor is good, actually
Yeah, that's how I think about it: "thing" and "canned thing" are effectively just two different items, each to be considered on its own. Eg, I love fresh jalepenos and I enjoy canned jalapenos, but I use them in completely different ways. To me they're just two separate foods that happen to share the word "jalapeno" in the name.

I don't believe in the no-win scenario

One of the cooking shows had that canned tomato products were better in many cases because they didn't have to be the kinds that traveled or lasted at all and some other reason I don't remember. And they also gave a use for the ugly ones.

A random google search confirms, so it must be true.

I prefer fresh mushrooms on pizza but when I'm making green curry chicken, as I do from time to time, I use canned mushrooms. Different use case, different prep.

You're all so focused on pineapple as the worst thing to put on pizza. I was in Germany a couple years ago and ate a tuna fish pizza. One of these:

" My name is Tuna Pizza , King of Pizzas;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

This will be the only time I ever organically make a poetry joke.

I hope.
You know, there is a reason the Germans are known for beer. It's filling, and it lets them get nicely buzzed, so they have an excuse to not eat the food hey make.
