There are people who would really like "religious wizards" who don't walk around in plate armor but just focus on slinging spells!

The sorcerer should exist.

The problem is WOTC and a lot of the community are too attached to Vancosn casting and too afraid of different things.to make a sorcerer like it's lore. But they ALSO hate redundancy.

It's like the original D&DN playtest WOTtC tested a Sorcerer with its own casting system and bloodline. gimmicks.

"It's too different. We don't like it."

WOTC created a Sorcerer that is just a wizard with Metamagic.

"It's too similar. We don't need it."

The issue isn't the sorcerer.
I'm gonna say that the sorcerer outlived it's justification for existing when wotc started describing it as "wizard but hot". At that point it was a wizard subclass not a base class that deserves subclasses of its own.

The sorcerer is justified in tropes.

The problem is no one is WOTC is a sorcerer fan and actual plays sorcerer outside of being forced by playtest.

That doesn't add up though because the sorcerer is just "wizard but hot" rather than leaning into developing its own tropes. There's a reason why people frequently suggest shifting it to d4 & con based gish with a heavy focus on what they get from bloodline instead of continuing the wizard but hot silliness

Yeah, we've danced this dance before, neither was satisfied. Maybe if we could focus on what we want instead of what we don't want?

You are confusing the sorcerer's lore tropes and the sorcerer's mechanic tropes.

The biggest issue with the sorcerer is that the crunch and fluff don't match.

The Base flavor of the sorcerer is that you are in an arcane spellcaster and because your magic is within your blood you do not go through all of standard rules for arcane spellcasting and have access to unique elements of magic

But mechanically you do not actually have any of that.
