Not your screen monkey (he/him)
I prefer my halflings as hobbits. There's nothing like playing an adventurer who is as interested in finding a good beer and meal as he is in obtaining riches. Plus, it's good to play simple, sturdy and practical folk.

As far as specific halflings, I've played Diyab, the fire sorcerer in Al-Qadim. Had a lot of fun with him. I've also played Filbert the Nimble, halfling roguish fellow in Warhammer Fantasy with his toughness of 1.
In the current Council of Thieves campaign, one of my players is Drago, halfling barbarian/ranger from the Mwangi Expanses - looking amid the halfling slaves of Westcrown for "The Chosen One" who will lead his people into a new golden age as was foretold by his tribal elders. He has currently fallen in with a gnomish pimp who is interested in setting him up with clients interested in the exotic foreigner. He's had one escort job so far and seems to enjoy it as well as the extra pocket money.

Belkar, to me, is a great example of "playing against type."

If halflings are generally reserved, practical, down-to-earth countryside types with neighborly charm and affability, Belkar is the compulsive, sociopathic, maddening exception.

If, on the other hand, halflings are the wee ninjae WotC has tried to present them as for two editions, Belkar's rather par for the course. :p

I just want to say that in 4E, the only TPK I suffered was at the hands of a bunch of Halflings.
A bunch of Halfling girls.

(It was just our 2nd or 3rd session, so the DM mercifuly brought the elven guard to save our unconscious as...skins)

What's all this talk of rogues, clerics and barbarians? When Strength is a dump stat the only option is monk. 32 point buy go!

I think you'd be surprised how effective a charisma-based Barbarian could be. I made that character just for the lulz, thinking it would be suboptimal, but that wasn't the case at all. Halflings have phenomenal racial feats for barbarians, and since they wear light armor, the dex meshes quite well. The cha-based powers in the barbarian list are incredibly effective because they focus more on *untyped* +/-attack rolls, rather than the con-based temp HP which is frequently overwritten. And by second-statting dex+cha as opposed to dex+con, your will save doesn't suck. Second chance and the OAs bonus are incredibly useful for a barbarian as well.

Only thing that sucks is that you can't use a "true" two handed weapons so you have to use a 1H versitile weapon instead.

I'll believe it when I see the character sheet.
