To Catch a Crimelord, or Down the Rabbit Hole (garyh judging)

Lily made an excited little hop when they captured the lookout.

Yay! We got him!

Come back Lith.

The shadowy shape sunk back into the darkness of the alcove and then dispersed altogether.

Lily quickly followed Raiyek toward the warehouse. While the lookout was being questioned she slipped over to the door and placed an ear against it, listening for any indication that the scuffle might have been heard.

"So how about the layout inside? How many men? Are there traps? Wards? When were you to be relieved from your guard post?"

Grim turns to the rogue.

"Carolina, grab that rope. We might have to take this gentleman somewhere quiet to have a little chat and convince him that there's no reason to be so scared of 'da boss'."
[sblock=OOC]
Grim is going to truss the sentry, gag him, and lower him down to the others (unless said sentry continues talking about hideout).

Also, Bluff to support the implied threat of torture: (1d20-1=16)[/sblock]

"So far so good, everyone," Raiyek says quietly. Once next to the doors he summons his armor back, content to leave the interrogation to Grim and Carolina for now.

While Lily is listening to see if anyone inside has heard, Raiyek keeps watch outwards towards the street. Meanwhile he recovers his thrown javelin and stows it, keeping the second one ready.

Carolina makes a small loop in the rope and lowers it down enough to dangle it in front of the guard's face. "Sure you wanna go through all that?" she asks Grim with a twisted grin. "We can leave 'em strung up here and it'll look like he's never left his post."

She purposely pulls the loop up so that it gently grazes the man's face. "And I guess he never will, either."

[sblock=OOC]She's bluffing, of course. For now...[/sblock]

Georg motions for his dagger and whispers up to Grim Get him down to let us in and hurry, we did make some noise. He glances over to Lily for any clues her face betrays about what she hears.

You can hear some shuffled footsteps inside, they're quiet, but not too quiet for you.

*needed a 28 on that check

The man turns to Grim, "Uh, it's just a warehouse, we store stuff inside to be shipped out around the city. There's a few guys inside. Ain't no wards but this magick one on the door. Da boss said it'd keep anyone out but us."

Raiyek keeps his eyes and ears on the street while the group discusses what to do. "Lily, what do you hear in there? Georg's right, we should be quick out here, they may have heard us. Maybe we should have him open the door, then incapacitate him. We can always come back for him later."

Lily bit her lip in concentration as she held her ear against the door straining to hear what was on the other side. After a moment a puzzled look crossed her face.

It's really quiet, she whispered.

Pressing her ear back against the door she listened an moment longer and then her eyes widened with a small measure of alarm.

There's someone shuffling around in there. It's really faint, she reported.

Maybe we should get ready in case they try to surprise us. It'd be really convenient if they opened the door at least.

Lily moved back from the entryway, furrowing her brow in concentration she held up the skull. An inky black mass began to boil up from nowhere next to the doors. Outside of the shadowed alcove its shape, or lack thereof, was more apparent. It was a roiling mass of teeth, claws, and eyes all made of insubstantial shadows. Its shape constantly changed, sometimes the forms were recognizable, sometimes they weren't.

Don't worry, that's Lith. He helps me out, Lily said this somewhat less than assuring explanation distractedly as she looked for cover from which to observe the door.

Put the spirit companion right at the center of the doors so that if anyone should try to come through them Lith will be the first thing they meet, and then try to find some nearby cover or concealment with LoS on the doors.

[sblock=Lily's Spirit Primer (Please Read!)]
Spirit companions are complex critters, so this is to remind everyone, myself included, of the important points. The first three items are probably the most relevant to the other players.
  • Any of Lily's allies who start their turn adjacent to her spirit companion can shift 1 square as a free action, as the first action during their turn.
  • Any of Lily's allies adjacent to her spirit companion gain a +3 bonus to their damage rolls against bloodied enemies.
  • Lily's spirit companion occupies 1 square, Lily's allies may move through its space, but her enemies may not.
  • Lily's spirit companion may be targeted by melee and ranged attacks. If a single attack deals 10 or more damage to Lily's spirit companion it disappears and Lily takes 5 damage. Otherwise her spirit companion is unaffected by the attack.
  • Lily's spirit companion uses Lily's defenses.
  • Any enemy that leaves a square adjacent to Lily's spirit companion without shifting is subject its Spirit Fang attack. (This is an opportunity action and so may used once per turn, rather than once per round. Since there is no reason not to take this attack DM please feel free to roll them as necessary.)
  • Lily's spirit companion is unaffected by terrain and environmental phenomena.

Raiyek nods to Lily, then gets ready for close combat and stands beside Lith at the doors in case whatever's inside decides to surprise them.

"You two hurry and do what you're going to do, we may be running out of time," Raiyek says to Carolina and Grim, his head half-turned towards them.

[sblock=OOC]Well, I'm ready for a fight :)

Grim catches the loop that Carolina had tied in the rope and tugs it down.

He tightens his hold on the man's neck until he falls gently to sleep, then binds and gags him before lowering him to the ground and dropping softly from the roof to the alley himself.

(Stealth (1d20+9=17) to drop down unheard)

"Don't worry... he'll wake up in a moment or two, and we can have him open this door."

Once the guard wakes up, Grim will have him open the door, and then leave him bound and gagged, concealed in the alley, saying "That'll do, pet. We'll be back for you."
