Undead and Corrupt Spells

This might be a no brainer, but with the cost of some spells, id think it would still happen.

lets say through a progression of a character, they become a lich and then decide to start casting spells of the corrupt descriptor out of the BoVD.

since undead are not subject to ability drain or damage, would the lich caster not take the damage and drain from learning some spells and preparing them? or would this instance be different because hes subjecting himself to something that would not apply toward the ability damage or drain.

I'm away from my books, but I have a vague memory of reading somewhere that undead take all Corrupt spell sacrifice component damage as Charisma damage.

This may have been in the BoVD, in an errata or FAQ file, or in a comment from Monte Cook... I'm afraid I can't remember.

BoVD FAQ said:
When an undead creature uses a corrupt spell with an
ability damage or ability drain corruption cost, the undead
creature takes the damage or the drain against its Charisma
score, no matter what ability the spell normally damages or
drains. If the damage or drain reduces the undead creature’s
Charisma to 0, the creature becomes helpless until the loss of
Charisma is somehow restored or repaired. Any ability
damage from a corruption cost heals at the rate of 1 point per
day, just like any other ability damage. Ability drain can be
healed by the appropriate spells.
Enjoy!
