It's "Prime Day" season right now, the PHB is on sale for $23. You can get all 3 Core books for ~$77 USD, to boot.

PHB is #66 right now. All books on US Amazon. (And 42,465 reviews with a 4.9 average).

Core books remain the best selling D&D books, by far. Its evergreen and not so much about the splats.

Hopefully they keep that in mind, and don't mess this up.

You don't need buy a PHB to get back & forth to work, so it's a flawed choice for an analogy.
