So, what things do you miss from the older editions?

The only thing I miss is the box sets. I could always stash my Play Boys in the bottom and my mom would never find them. Golden days.

Other than that I miss nothing.

I really, really, REALLY miss the small amount of prep time from the older editions. For all the options 3E offers (feats, PrCs, etc.) I hate the byproduct of optimization that it has created. Characters are less characters and more statistical monsters these days.

3E is a whole bunch of bigger-better-faster-more mentality that has really worn me down. I do, however, like many of 3E's mechanics, for what it's worth.

Four things above all:

Clyde Caldwell
Jeff Easley
Larry Elmore
and especially the late, great Keith Parkinson.

Don't get me wrong, I like the new art, but when I think about D&D -- which, needless to say, is a lot -- their stuff is what I'm seeing.
