D&D General What if HP were based only on Con and level ?

Like half Con score + ( Con mod if positif )
i.e.
Con --- HP
1 ------- 1
2 ------- 1
3 ------- 2
4 ------- 2
5 ------- 3
6 ------- 3
7 ------- 4
8 ------- 4
9 ------- 5
10 ----- 5
11 ----- 6
12 ----- 7
13 ----- 8
+1 --- +1
And of course multiply by the level :)

You'd need to rewrite the rules for all damage-dealing stuff, like weapons, spells, monsters, class features, feats, how str affects damage, and Extra Attack. So at that point I'd say you're making a whole new game.

Which is a fine and noble pursuit, though perhaps outside the scope of this particular sub-forum.

4E did HP = Full Con score + a fixed value based on your class, then you gain another fixed number each level, dependent on your class.

Your idea seems like a simpler alternative with lower numbers, but misses the variation by class.

A lot of folks have proposed hit point reductions across the board to make for faster combat. It's seems like a fairly common house rule.

This is going to make CON value much more important. As well it would make those with high CONs have more hit points than RAW fighters would.

i.e. A fighter with CON 18
RAW = 10 HP per level (ave)
New = 13 HP per level

i.e. A Wizard with CON 16
RAW = 6 HP per level (ave)
New = 11 HP per level

Excepted that I won't let players roll for HP, I give 'em max hp value
( So your 18 Con fighter would have 13 HP a level )
( And about the 16 Con Wiz... 3+6 ? I'd had preferred ad&d's 4 HP a level so 4+3 vs 11 (!) )
