I always liked JG Verbosh -- not strictly an adventure, just a setting with several mini-adventures and "places of interest", but nicely put together all the same.

Caverns of Thracia is a true classic, however. Well put together and lots of fun.

anything by Carl Sargent should be thrown in the trash.

Not trying to stalk your posts or anything, but Sargents work for WHFRP was absolutely stunning. Power Behind the Throne is the best city / political intrigue adventure I've ever seen.

So what gives, why was his D&D stuff trash?

Thanks! But which of these do you consider the best, they can't all be the best, can they?

gotta go with x2 castle amber the npc's were insane which is good for story/fear

I checked that module based on this thread.

"Prince Stephen Amber will send a cloud of amber light to encircle the party at the end of a gaming session. This light will protect the party from all wandering monsters and provides nourishment. The amber light will restore all lost hit points .. allows to regain spells yada yada yada .."

Thats some elegant design, and metagaming to boot. They invented the save game before it was used in computer games!

And people call 3e 'videogamey'

Night's Dark Terror was pretty neat. It had great maps, a minis-board of a farmhouse for the goblin assault, and a complete campaign background with city maps and everything. Very good for the beginning GM. I think it even had cardboard counters?
