I know you know this, but in the interest of the brand name article I just read, I feel obligated to point out the following:

Golarion is a Pathfinder setting!



PAIZO was creating D&D modules for it ..albeit SRD...before Pathfinder. Maybe that is the reasoning?

That said, not something I would consider official either. If that was the case, you would have to take into account everything ever introduced via a crappy old D20 glut module.

I'd be surprised if anything BUT Forgotten Realms wins this poll, though I it's certainly not in my Top 3.

Every time I've played in the FR, it inevitably ended up one of two things---the DM had to follow "canon" to the letter, or completely ignored it. Kind of tangential, I realize, but really, what's the deal with that?

This is EXACTLY why FR is among my least favorite settings to play in. It does make great novels though.

Greyhawk is the ultimate setting for "enough background to give you structure without being restrictive".
