Where Would You Locate Atlantis?

Depends on which parts of the stories/myths about Atlantis you want to be true for your setting. In the writings, it is supposed to be outside the Pillars of Hercules, so west of Gibralter and outside the Mediterranean.

I came across a theory a while back that suggested that the Pillars of Hercules were the Straight of Messina, and that Atlantis was modern-day Sardinia. If nothing else, it seems to fit distance-wise. Somewhere in the Atlantic always struck me as a bit too far from the cultures centred around the Eastern Mediterranean.
