D&D 5E Why D&D Can't Have a Good Video Game

How has the Witcher series of games not showed up in this conversation???

1. Take the Witcher game series and remove the Witcher specific lore.
2. Fill back in the lore with Forgotten Realms setting info.
3. Retweak Geralt into a Fighter/Wizard monster hunter.

That would be the best DnD videogame of all time....and this is coming from someone who puts Baldur's Gate 2 as his #1 GOAT.

I think the original Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition still holds up well. The only real complaint I have about it is the complaint I had right when it came out, too many seemingly superfluous locations whose only purpose was to provide an area for you to move through to get to a different area that you actually needed to go. Baldur's Gate 2 had far less of these.

I'm finding an issue with pathfinder kingmaker is analysis paralysis, too many options! I have a similar problem every time I restart Neverwinter Nights 2. I restarted as a druid and was planning on picking up sorcerer and going into mystic theurge (with the archetypes I can make it dependant on a single caster ability) but then decided I wanted to be more martial so now I'm running as an eldritch knight. Of course I also want to try out the magus and the inquisitor. I wouldn't mind going sorcerer and eventually becoming a dragon... I'm going to have to do a number of replays of this game.

Kingmaker has the best character options of any RPG I‘be I've seen.

Races you can choose include Elf, Halfling, Dwarf, Human, Gnome, Half Elf, Half Orc, Regular Aasimar, Plumekith, Angelkin, Musetouched. Idyllkin, Lawbringers, Emberkin.

Class options including prestiage and archetypes Fighter, Tower Shield Specialist, Great Weapon Master, Aldori Defender, Cleric, Herald Caller, Eccelthuirist, Cruasader, Druid, Feyspeaker, Blight, First World Defender, Monk, Scaled Fist, Sensei, Chained, Paladin, Hospitalizer, Divine Hunter, Inquisitor, Sacred Huntsman, Monster Tactian, Tactical Leader, Wizard, Thassilion, Scroll Savant, Arcane Bomber, Alchemist, Grenadier, Vivsectionist, Chirgeon, Bard, Thunder Caller, Firedancer, Archaeologist, Sorcerer, Empyrean, Sylvan, Sage, Magus, Eldrich Scion, Eldrich Archer, Kensei, Ranger, Feetbooter, Stormwalker, Flamewarden, Rogue, Eldrich Scoundrel, Thug, Knife Master, Mystic Thuerge, Eldrich Knight, Dragon Disciple, Starwart Defender, Arcane Trickster.

And this doesn't count choices like Domains, regular bloodlines (Seprent, Arcane, Air Elemental, Fire Elemental, Water Elemental, Earth Elemental, Black Dragon, White Dragon, Red Dragon, Green Dragon, Blue Dragon, Gold Dragon, Silver Dragon, Bronze Dragon, Copper Dragon, Brass Dragon, Fey, Celestial), Wizard schools (Evocation, Necromancy, Conjuration, Abjuration, Divination, Enchantment, Illusionist, Transmutation, Lust, Greed, Wrath, Envy, Sloth, Pride, Glutteny).

If 5e had this kind of customization you practically have to put all player options into the game!

Something I like about kingmaker is that companions aren't locked into their class like in the storyline for NWN2. It lets me explore some other class combos: a half elf rogue/wizard, I'm turning into an arcane trickster. A cleric of sarenrae is going to become a mystic theurge. I get to try out a magus and inquisitor through a couple of companions and eventually I will be an eldritch knight with my main character.

The flaw for SoD to me was that the voice acting was so subpar to what we came to expect with the rest of the infinity engine games. The artwork was also not quite up to par. The dialogue itself wasn't really all well written. The story itself was okay, but the presentation, to me, was just so...so compared to what had come before. In comparison to other Infinity Engine games it wasn't all that great. Compared to many other RPGs that have come out, it probably is superior to many.
I think BG1 would garner the same criticisms if it launched today. Apart from the DM/Saravok it had minimal voice acting, and some of the dialogue is horribly clunky and anachronistic. Try being anti-hunting in the Cloakwood.

HTis is kind of what I mean for a good D&D game. Kingmnaker was probably cheap in terms of game development and looks nice/fun to play.

1. Its not an actual D&D game although it is fantasy.
2. Witcher is an 80 million dollar game. WoTC can't afford that and they go for the cheap developers it seems.

Not as cheap as you might think. They received nearly a million dollars in a Kickstarter campaign to supplement their existing development budget. They also had a big publishing partner (Deep Silver).

Granted, it's not AAA levels of funding, but it's not a tiny indie game budget, either. It's probably comparable to Pillars of Eternity.
