So the "problem" here is that there seems to be an awkward fit between our conception of a race, and our conception of the class. But that's true for lots of combinations: orcish wizards, halfling barbarians, tiefling fighters, dragonborn rogues, etc. Why don't we worry about those combinations?

The problem is not that monks don't feel elven enough. The problem is racial ASIs. Q.E.F.D.

What?
Wood Elven monks are pointed out as being mechanically a good fit right there in the OP.

I'm aware that there are a lot of racial ASI threads, but could you explain why you think it is relevant in, and needs to be brought into this thread please?
