D&D 5E Xanathar's Guide To Everything Cleric Grave Domain

In some ways this reminds me a lot of the Old Kingdom series (Abhorsen) characters. Which I adore by the way.

First, Mistwell Abhorsen is an amazing book series.

Moving on, this domain definitely fills a very important niche and fills it better than the "undead" (Death) domain. Super excited to see this one hit the table.

Definitely an improvement over the evil cleric Death Domain. Necrotic energy specialist was fun, but definitely not what I wanted for Wee Jas, Kelemvor, or the Raven Queen.

Not realy sure how to feel about the domain as a whole. Its another undead hunter, but its not a bunch of +damage (that's the Devoted Paladin's stick anyways). And, yeah, undead show up a lot, but... it still feels like a lot of abilities seem to revolve around undead? Despite saying they didn't want to have a guy that's got dead levels when not doing undead?

I feel conflicted.

Possibly a Idiot.
Looking at the spell list, I have a feeling that they are going to have the same problem of relying on necrotic damage to fight undead.

I don't really worry about the subclasses as shown in the UA reviews. They've already seen our input (if we provided it) on those and attempted to revise them. So I assume the final products will be different in almost every case.

Of all UA subclasses this is the one I would have wanted to be in the core most. I was starting to feel nervous that they hadn't announced it yet. Now I am glad :)

The Main DM in my group LOVES to both use and explore the concepts and themes surrounding undeath.
The grave domain as a sort of "watcher at the gates" will totally fit the themes he likes to explore.
