a note on Shilellagh, this cantrip is very handy if you do not have a magic weapon, so if you are a melee orientated cleric, this beats using a spell slot (Magic Weapon spell) to mitigate resistance to normal weapons. now, regarding the 'classic/original' cleric versus it's 5E iteration, they didnt have an action economy other than 'move, attack, orcast a spell' so swinging a weapon and using...

Yes, we did just this after purchasing the Red Box in around 78, and before buying any hardcovers (AD&D), by 79 we'd scrapped most of it and were playing ad hoc. We also created a martial art rpg by 83, which I wish I still had the write up for. in short, where there's a whip...there's a way...

I personally like this kind of item, harkening back to the old days, ye old +1,+3 vs lycanthropes and etc ;) This is also a viable candidate, the problem is that in 5E a +3 is also a very rare weapon I was trying to quantify a rare version of a dragon slayer oathbow

Basically, you are talking about an Oathbow, with the wielder's sworn enemy being a dragon. An Oathbow is very rare and has a lot more to offer than the rare Dragon Slayer sword. I'd compromise between the two, tweak down an Oathbow to become a Bow of Dragon Slaying ( or even of Chromatic Dragon Slaying??) Side by side comparison: Dragon Slayer, +1 magic weapon ( sword), which deals an...

fair catch, I suppose even the Eldritch Knight, or perhaps Arcane trickster could take it as an off school spell... not that they'd have a lick of a chance with a high DC unless they have some very nice chargen

one could give the human +5 to ability scores divided as they choose, with no more than 2 points attributed to any one score. this is less than the 6 points divided equally, but mitigates a third +2 potential. So possible of three abilities getting +1 and one gets +2; or two abilities get +2, and one gets +1. The downside is the even spread only boosts five ability scores

A Beginning Pathfinder Adventure designed for 6 characters of Levels 1-3 A keep on the frontier of civilization is beset on all sides by roving bands of chaos. • 09:14 PM - airwalkrr mentioned Radaceus in post (Recruiting) Greyhawk Old-School Sandbox-Style Campaign
...me reading, but at the moment I can't get onto Invisible castle; "503 - Service Not Available". Just thought I'd let you know early. As invisiblecastle is still down, you may feel free to use the embedded dice roller on EN World for your stats if you desire. I also took a look at your character concept, and I am not sold on the idea. If you are wanting to go the route of a paladin with the Oath of Devotion, that is a poor fit for a follower of Trithereon, especially one who engages in vigilantism. Trithereonites have little use for things like honor and honesty, two important tenets of the Oath of Devotion. A Trithereonite paladin would almost certainly swear an Oath of Vengeance, as retribution against evil is Trithereon's primary portfolio. If you merely alter the intended Sacred Oath to the Oath of Vengeance, then the background seems to fit the concept perfectly. Oath of the Ancients could also work as well. The Oath of Devotion simply does not fit the character as described. Radaceus, the more the merrier for the moment. I have looked over the proposed character concept and have a few comments. You note the character's origins are in the Barrens. Did you intent this to be the area known as the Rovers of the Barrens which is far to the north? If so, the area has been in a rather constant state of war with the lands of Iuz and the Horned Society for the last 60 years or so. Both Iuz and the Horned Society employ humanoid mercenaries such as orcs which could fit into the narrative. However, if I might suggest a closer location to the Domain of Greyhawk, the Pomarj was occupied by non-humans following the Hateful Wars between the Ulek States and the humanoid tribes of the area which lasted for about 10 years starting about 85 years ago. Ever since then, the Ulek States, the Wild Coast, and the Domain of Greyhawk have clashed with the humanoid tribes who have now occupied the Pomarj. The humanoids of the Pomarj are mostly orcs and goblins, and they have attacked settlem...

  • 04:08 AM - Leif quoted Radaceus in post [OOC] Leif's 5E Alpha Game
I would argue that Fritz Leiber, Terry Brooks, Tanith Lee, Fred Saberhagen, Jack Chalker, P.J. Farmer, and Michael Moorcock (off top of my head, and avoiding the whole Tolkien, C.J. Lewis, Arthor Conan Doyle, and R.E. Howard thing) would have something to say about that! For what it's worth, I loathe and despise Terry Brooks, I've read some, but not enough, Leiber, just a smidgin of Chalker and Farmer, a significant amout of Tolkien, Lewis, Doyle and Howard (though most of the Conan I've read has been actually written by others like L. Sprague DeCamp), and I've read absolutely all of the Moorcock I've ever been able to get my grubby little hands on, which is a significant amount. I think I'm missing a few of the Corum books, and a few other ones.

  • 05:52 PM - Trogdor1992 quoted Radaceus in post [OOC] Leif's 5E Alpha Game
Glen Cooks Black Company series is a must read, he is an authors author. Blows Salvatore out of the water. its about a mercenary company trying to find their roots and get out from under their contract to an evil overlord mage. (like a lost legion for hire) cutting edge stuff for the 1980s, and still unparralelled IMO Well that i might be interested in, btw although I am a Salvatore fan he is certainly not the best author
  • 05:45 PM - Trogdor1992 quoted Radaceus in post [OOC] Leif's 5E Alpha Game
I did, very typical army guy, I like it very Glen Cook, 'Black Company' type character there ( my favorite author BTW) Thank you, though I'm not into military stories(or books not in fantasy settings for that matter)

LOL four way tie, I had voted for the Bard btw. I guess it is up to the DM now ...who is going to leave it up to me I think... Have you confirmed your fighter build yet Trogdor1992? He said it looks good and that he'll look at it more later, I'm guessing as long as i didn't make any mistakes I'll be good to go
  • 03:09 AM - Trogdor1992 quoted Radaceus in post [OOC] Leif's 5E Alpha Game
ok guys, I know you are leaving this up to me, but I want some input to decide now ( of course all dependent on DM final approval): Which character would you guys like to travel with, information on the gnome wizards stats are on the RG thread, the other 3 are on post #80 of this thread vote here :) http://strawpoll.me/5815391 thanks! I voted for the dwarf, because dwarven druids are hilarious

turning on my gnomish reasoning, 17 intel, leads me to deduce- anyone knowledgeable of Kalgoorlie, either works in mining, or resides in Australia, New zealand :) I am in Perth, but am an ex-pat American, now a card holding Aussie. They'll let anyone in down under I tell you! Perth was going to be my only choice, but I had half a continent to cover, so I thought I'd better throw in a couple of other choices just in case. Back when he U.S. was just beginning its Mad Descent into Hell, my dad used to threaten to move to Australia regularly. The biggest hold-up was that my mother is deathly afraid of airplanes and ships. We used to joke that we'd have to chloroform her, and keep her sedated until we got there. Now that we've all become accustomed to breathing coal dust and snuggling up to Old Scratch every night, the stinking bugger, I think we're stuck here.
  • 03:25 AM - Trogdor1992 quoted Radaceus in post [OOC] Leif's 5E Alpha Game
And though , the gnome is actually growing on me, his Rp actually coming better than I thought for being both a race and a class I dont normally lean towards. I will still put together a few Healer types, just to have a look, and let you guys all decide, I dont mind playing anything really as I have Dm'd 5E only, never played a character yet. I've learned new stuff already just from fleshing out the wizard, amazing what you learn by being in the driver's seat, and not being the referee I'll revert to this post later with Half-Elf Druid High Elf Paladin Human Cleric In all seriousness though, I think you should just play whatever seems the most fun to you, I mean I think that's what everyone else did
  • 02:53 AM - Leif quoted Radaceus in post [OOC] Leif's 5E Alpha Game
I will make a healer if it is required. (feel obligated, especially after jumping the gun/misunderstanding, I dont think i will live that down any time soon). Ahh! No huge deal. If that's the worst misunderstanding we have to deal with, we'll be in stellar shape. In my opinion, you have nothing tp live down. What's that?? I'm supposed to be mad at somebody who is overly anxious to play in my game? I don't think so. You're not obligated in any way, except to hopefully have fun. West Aussie, eh? Perth? Albany? Kalgoorlie? (Obviously, I have either an atlas or a computer. Give you three guesses which one, and the first two don't count.)
