Palladium's Ninja's and Superspies. Didn't last hardly past character creation. It took all night and my dedicated martial artist had a character sheet 3 pages long from all the styles and moves. I don't want to read a book when referencing my character.

  • 12:52 AM - Quartz mentioned The Black Ferret in post Idea's for Rival party.
There's an adventure in one of the very old Dungeon Magazines where the PCs meet up with an evil-led adventuring party, and one of their tasks is to persuade the neutral members of the party to defect. It might have been called 'The Orb of Law' or something similar. If you want Neutral members of the party, I agree with The Black Ferret and just have them seduced by Gallus' charisma.

It'd be like playing D+D where the only monsters are orcs and various half-orcs.. Except... Orcs aren't especially scary or deadly. It be more like level 2 adventurers playing in a world where the only monsters are Beholders and it's kin. Or Vampires and its spawn...

  • 06:55 AM - MGibster quoted The Black Ferret in post Vampire's new "three-round combat" rule
I'm not a big fan of the Three Round Rule, either. In my view, if a situation is worth getting into combat about, then it's worth playing out. If it isn't, then maybe you should look at other forms of resolution. I find it's nearly impossible as a GM to plan for every contingency and it's been my experience that players sometimes have their characters get into fights or other situations that really aren't worth playing out. And as a GM I've sometimes failed to make every fight or situation I planned out be meaningful in the long run. We've focused on combat in this thread but the three roll guideline is also meant for non-combat situations as well. This isn't a rule I'd like to use in every game any more than FATE's suggestion that when things get slow I just throw ninjas at it. But I do think it works well for a game like Vampire.

For the War Priest, I am reminded of the Record of Lodoss War anime. The priest of the Goddess of War went with the villain side because their leader was charismatic and promised of deeds worthy of the Goddess' favor. The priest wasn't even evil, but devout to the tenets of the Goddess. Perhaps the priest just sees something in the Blackguard or the Eldritch Knight which called to them. That can work for me. Being loyal to Gallus. (The Blackguard is largely looked down on by the rest of the group.)

  • 05:29 AM - Thomas Bowman quoted The Black Ferret in post Thundarr the Barbarian as a D&D setting
Ariel wasn't the only good spell-caster. There is one episode where they meet a couple teenage heroes; a female barbarian and a male sorcerer, so like Thundarr and Ariel, but with a gender swap. Still, both good and evil magic-users were uncommon and certainly not a wizard on every corner. The frequency might be about the same as force-users in a Star Wars setting. Also, a number of the evil wizards used technology to augment their powers and some seemed to be based solely off of using technology. Well the fact that magic-users are born rather than trained may be used to keep them rare, but not too rare. if there is a PC magic user, then he or she will need a challenge. I think a Sorcerer would fit more into this setting than a Wizard, and the lesser magic users, bards, rangers, and druids can fit in there as well. I'm not sure, but I don't think clerics have a place in this setting, after all their ancestors are us, and I think that in the wake of a global disaster people will tend to cling closer ...
  • 04:03 AM - Celebrim quoted The Black Ferret in post RPG Legal Advice
Well, the first thing to remember is that, regardless of how bad the perp is, the cops don't like civilians doing their job, and the rest of the city's law enforcement will likely feel the same, so the prosecuting attorney will try to make as much stick as possible. you'll see thins in real court cases, too. They will throw every charge they can at the suspect, so they know that they can get something on them. That is the purpose of this thread. Find everything I can reasonably charge the PC's with that a prosecutor might make stick. As for charges, firstly, there is the question of reasonable force. Did they need to be shot 4 times? Maybe they did, but the question would be enough to draw up charges for an inquiry. Especially if the guy they shot did not have a gun on him. I could have really got them for this, but every time they shot at the guy's back, they luckily missed. Since all the bullet wounds are from the front, they should be able to argue successfully that they had a reasonabl...
