Best Bluff of the Campaign (So Far)

I'm playing a rogue/fighter/invisible blade who is returning to the Temple of Elemental Evil. Our party (my character plus a barbarian, a cleric of Pelor, a duskblade/wizard, a paladin, a warlock, and a warmage) have destroyed the air temple, made of nuisance of ourselves in other places, and are now preparing to move definitively against the earth temple.

Most of us were disguised as temple minions. The paladin refused to disguise himself. As we moved down a dark tunnel, troglodyte guards called out, "Halt! Who goes there?"

Isabeau the duskblade tried her hand at bluffing our past the guards, but to no avail. She claimed the well-armored and armed paladin was our prisoner whom we were escorting to the earth temple.

"Why's he still in armor and armed, then?" asked a trog.

My character, who lies about nearly everything, replied, "He's a wizard. We put him armor to mess up his spells and gave him the sword because he's not trained in its use."

One Bluff check opposed by a Sense Motive check later, we sauntered past the trog guards with our prisoner.

Heh, heh! The Paladin could have added to the bluff by remonstrating to the trogs that your character was lying, and that it was all a set-up. It might have added to the bluff check, while at the same time still being completely true.

Ah Mark. Playing yourself again? Hope you're having fun on the other side of the screen.

Funny enough, my best bluff was in exactly the same place of the same module! I was playing a bard and claimed our priest of Pelor was the captive. It was so long ago I forget the details, but I do recall getting pretty far into the Trog lair before the bluff fell apart. I also recall a very intense battle after that.

Wes, Erik, and Don are around. So is Terry, but not sure if you ever met Terry before you abandoned us for something as meaningless as career advancement.



So, how's things?

The best bluff I have ever seen...

We were wanted by some corrupt officials in a town. They were offering a bounty significant enough that our 15th-level characters took note.

It should be noted that the corrupt officials had previously tried to kill us -- and we had killed a bunch of the low-level guard-types they had been threatening us with. So the party rogue/bard/sorcerer took the heads of the guards, disguised them (magically and non-magically) as *our* heads, and took them into town.

Despite the fact that they put him in a zone of truth and inspected the heads carefully, his Glibness and natural skill at lying found our group walking away -- listed as deceased -- with OUR OWN BOUNTIES.

It was glorious.
