Can A Planar Lord cast Planar Ally requesting an ally from itself?

As stated in the thread title.

Can a planar creature of significant power, if it has the ability to cast Planar Ally, request allies from its own forces?

Is there a RAI answer on this?

I would have it summon allies the same way a demon summons other demons.

The wording seems off a bit. If a planar lord, which is a NPC in my game, cast planar ally spell, then of-course he could summon his own followers to his side. This would be a normal use of the ability.

The other way I was reading it involved him summoning himself, which I thought was just a cheap teleport and not worth it when he can summon allies to even the odds.

Given the right situation, it could cause a cascade. Why does everything on these boards go back to Supulchrave’s story hour? But that was Gate.
