D&D 5E Major Image 5e

Okay I noticed that Major Image has it's area of effect =to it's range, which means that a Sorcerer can use distance spell metamagic to double both. But here is the question, after casting does the range from the spot where you originally cast your spell, or does it always project out from you. So say a Sorcerer casts Distance Major Image for a range of 240 feet, is that 240 feet in every direction around him? And does the centre of the range move with the caster. Like could the caster create an illusary Deva 240 feet away, then walk up to the Illusionary Deva anduse an action to movie it a 240 feet further away from the character? If so it seems like the caster could take their major image with them on their travels? And what happens when an enemy investiages the illusion and fails, what do they experience on a sensorly? And even if the range is locked in, a Sorcerer could keep adding Level 6 Major Images to fill an area with puppets.

A sorcerer could give it a 240 foot range and move the image from one side of the 240 radius to the other (moving it 480 feet) using an action. To that end, the illusion can be brought along with the caster, but it is a little cumbersome to have to use an action every 30 seconds or so to move the illusion. However, such speedy movement may tip off folks that there is something funky there, and once someone suspects there is an illusion, it is easy to get to a point where you can see through it.

If there is a failed investigtion check, the illusion still has the appearance of being real to that investigator. However, it is fairly easy to toss something through the illusion to physicaly interact with it, so the investigation check is a rare way to be able to see through the illusion in many games. It is reserved for situations in which the target can't be physically impacted.

Unlike Phantasmal force, there is no mental control with illusions like this one. A viewer is not forced to believe it is real if told it is false. If an ally calls out that it is an illusion, the viewer may coclude that it is an illusion even without the investigation check or physical interaction... those just help the viewer see through the image.

This spell works best when you create an illusion that others will not expect to encounter. If they have no reason to interact with it, and no reason to expect it, the illusion will be nearly impossible to detect.

From the way the spell description is written, yes, it looks like you could haul the illusion around with you.

And what happens when an enemy investiages the illusion and fails, what do they experience on a sensorly?

It continues to appear to be real. (I don't understand why this should be in question, so maybe I am misunderstanding the situation you are thinking of.)

And even if the range is locked in, a Sorcerer could keep adding Level 6 Major Images to fill an area with puppets.

Yes, it would appear so, RAW, although it does seem sort of wrong. OTOH, you can do the same thing (minus the potential mobility) with Programmed Illusion, which is level 6, although that costs you 25 gp a pop.
