I'd be tempted to have an epicure hire the party to hunt it, in order that he might be the last person alive to taste its flesh, although he might be inclined to keep his true purpose concealed until after the bird's capture.

I found this news to be rather refreshing the day after Thanksgiving...

To keep this "On Topic"... How would you use the return of an extinct bird in your campaign?

The things called a 'Spirit Bird' - so obviously ghostly songbird in a Lichs garden.

Its been gone for 100 yrs - into a spirit realm of course - and now its back. What does this portend? Have the gates of the underworld opened to allow all kinds of ghostly creatures to enter the material realm?

The heart of the bird is the key material component in a unique, very powerful spell. The birds were thought eradicated in a wizards' war many years ago. Now that a few have been discovered alive, a "resource rush" develops as rival mages try to be the first to obtain the rare item.

It's but the first of many restored to life by a secretive circle of druids who wish to correct the error's of the past. And prevent them in the future by then making the humanoid races extinct!

Either that or some Monty Pythonesque giant foot just stomps on it. (Bigby's Cynical Extremity.)
