How well does ENWorld represent gamers at large?

This is something I wonder about a lot re: the internet. It's a given that on a site like, say, Wikipedia, the people who contribute to it are an order of magnitude fewer in number compared to the number of people who use it. ENWorld, and by extension other BBs like the WotC board, are a similar deal. I'm wondering how well the opinions voiced by posters here can be taken to represent the population of gamers as a whole.

Obviously, this is going to be a rough sketch and horrendously flawed. Also, I'm no statistician, so this may be a total waste of time.

Next time you get together with your group(s), find out if they're a REGISTERED USERS at Enworld. You can only vote once, so ask however many people you want. And try to keep them from doing the same thing, eh? That's guaranteed to fudge this up.

If you don't think you've been included in someone else's count, include yourself.

Oh, and if there's any mathfolk out there that can point out some gaping flaws in this, feel free to punch me through them.

Just me in my group of 6. Out of the about 25 gamers in the area I know, 1 other. And that's just to play pbps. It's not just ENWorld, internet MBs are not a fair representation for anything.

I play with 3 other people in one group, with 4 others in another, and am friends with 3 more people that right now, due to various reasons, can not game with us.

Of those, I am the only one who posts on Enworld. Three of the others used to post on WoTC, but stopped years ago.

I know several dozen gamers IRL, and quite possibly a couple hundred. I personally know exactly two other guys IRL who post at ENWorld -- both of whom I directed here (I do not know their screen names). I suspect that there might be one or two other posters whom I know IRL, but who I don't know post at ENWorld. Or something like that.

Out of the sixteen people in the various gaming groups I have gathered online and offline since I started playing D&D, five -- myself included in both counts -- are registered ENWorld members. None of the others have visited ENWorld in many months, however.

Of the +/- 20 gamers that I know are actively playing at the moment, only two post here (myself and crazy_cat), and one or two others have accounts but do not post afaik.

i have 9 players i know. i'm the only one who posts here. one other posted on the WoTC boards a few times last year in the gamers classified section before he found my game but never paid any attention to the rest of the forums there.

My group meet over EN World so it is of no surprise all of them have accounts here.

My current group is at 100%. Of course, there's only 2 people besides myself, and the other two only registered to post in a thread that I made about our game a couple weeks ago and I don't think they've been back since.

I know one person who reads ENWorld from time to time, but I don't think he's registered.

So basically, 0% for me.

With my online games, I have a total of about 15 different players. I think I am the only one here. I won't bother trying to figure it out for games I play in, but none have recruited through here, so I think the amount is small. Not bothering to vote, though.
