I don't know if anybody really uses cloakers. Do they even exist in 4e? If it wasn't for a recent article in Kobold Quarterly, I don't think they'd even really have a place in the game except as a once-per-player gotcha: "Hah, that wasn't a cloak, it was a flying monster thing!"

What are some underused monsters do you like to employ as a DM?

I particularly like Shocker Lizards and Ythrak.

Is this a troll thread? That's pretty much what I'd say if I was starting a troll thread on this subject.

Most monsters are used exactly as much as they deserve to be, in my experience.

Derro being a possible exception.

Ruin, Trolls aren't underused! Please stick to topic. ;)

I don't know if they qualify, but Chuuls are one of my favorites. NEVER go into a swamp on a flat-bottomed boat if I'm DMing you in a game... :)

Gambadoes from earlier editions were one of my favorite "gotcha" monsters. See that skull lying on a bone pile on the ground? What's that shiny gem in the bone pile... AHH!

As a player, I've summoned Thoqqua to do some tunneling for our characters once - though for some reason one player turned the Thoqqua's shape into a crude joke for the entire time, so I never used them again.

Tembos are THE #1 underused creature out there. They are fast, intelligent and cunning. Dodge missile weapons, have psionics that allow for them to sneak up on you or play with your mind. They rarely use the same tactic twice. Deadly up close with their pounce and level draining bite attacks.

I also use a lot of free will undead templates on creatures. "Look- zombies! Attack!" and as they near the six zombies dragging a leg and moaning they suddenly pull weapons and hiss and charge. "RETREAT!"

Lizardfolk. I love em and they can be placed in most any envirnment with ease. All of the DMs I have ever played with didn't use them. Surprises me a great deal.

Anyone uses halflings as monsters? For some reason, I feel unable to put them as monsters. Maybe I think they are too cute to be slain or something like that.
