Underused Monsters

What? I'd say that lately kobolds have been done to death. Enough with the kobolds already!

I shall not rest until ALL encounters feature kobolds.

I will shortly be releasing my new 4th edition super-adventure: Expedition to a Return Against Temple of Elemental Underdark Kobold Mountain.

There are kobolds in it.

Would you consider a lion eating a human to be a cannibal? I wouldn't. By the same token, I don't consider a halfling eating a human to be a cannibal. Now, a halfling eating another halfling, that's a cannibal, but they don't do that. Well, there's one published example, but that guy was exiled for precisely that reason.

The wording about human flesh is "a person who[...]". I didn't feel it was needed to include it. You know, tacit meaning.
A halfling is a person (not an animal, a plant, etc.), so eating human flesh makes him an anthropophagus (a cannibal).

The problem is our language simply doesn't account for nonhuman sapient races.

Whether the halflings are cannibals they're obviously ramen though.

Creeping coins, animated objects, mimics, the kilmouwous from the AD&D feind folio. Arrowhawks, will o wisps, dryads. I dont think ive used any of these more than once.
Although an animated torch gave my players some hell recently....

Everything is better with Giant Space Hamsters. :D

Wyrmshadows

PS. I would never use such atrocity in my game, but I thought that this was as rare a critter as exists in the game.

Orbril the gnome once went on a monster hunting expedition in the course of which he captured (with a net) a herd of giant carniverous hamsters. I then convinced the DM to let Orbril keep two of the cubs and raise them - thus started Orbrils Amazing Travelling Circus which after a few generations of selective breeding included a loyal pack of Giant Carnieverous Hamsters to do the Gnomes bidding and ensured that they featured in every adventure MWAHAHAHA

Yes. When talking about a fantasy world I think it's appropriate to use the word cannibal to describe sentient beings, especially humanoids, that eat the flesh of other sentient humanoid beings. What other word is there to use?

So, yeah, cannibal halflings.
