Just a thought...a realization, actually.

I probably wouldn't mind the spam posts regarding things like XXX videos, etc., if they'd just buy a membership first. That way, the site would get $$$ before the ban.

Perhaps if we spammed their websites with misinformation, telling them membership allows them to post all the spam threads they want...

Of course, such spam couldn't be done by actual representatives of ENWorld...that would be false advertising.

Ahhhh...wishful thinking.

Heh. Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to be wishful thinking that will remove the apparently increasing amounts of spam on EnWorld 2...

Wonder what's allowing so many more to post in so many different forums.

All the community supports that turned off the ads. They have to get you some how so they're going for spamming the place up.

They should make a separate forum and call it "Advertising" and set it to have a 24 hour auto-delete. Then they should place a notice in the Publisher section warning them that the Advertising forum is a sinkhole for spam and that if they post a product ad/announcement there it will be lost.

Hopefully, the spammers would be dumb enough to place their spam in that forum.

I think you're on to something.

Two things:

1) Spam was on the rise before EN2 came online. These things tend to come in waves.

2) For the most part, the different forums are all pretty much the same, in terms of security. One can post in Meta without an account, just so we can hear from folks who have issues and can't log in. After that, a forum's a forum, and it doesn't take anything special to post in General as opposed to Off Topic or the 4e Rules forum.

I've noticed a sharp increase in spam in the last week or so, especially on this forum. I wonder if it is just because this forum is a little slower than the others so the spam doesn't get drowned out by real threads?
