I haven't even really read it. If we hit a snag while playing I'll make a ruling that works and move on. That's what a DM does.
What do you do with the updates?

A pencil works just fine for me.
For 3.0 I actually wrote the errata into my PHB (or for long ones, print out and stuck it in the appropriate page)
For 3.5 and 4.0 I read them all, nod in firm agreement that it clarifies/fixes/modifies things (for most of them anyway), and then I go to my game(s) and essentially forget about (not on purpose, just, wow I have other things to do).
If I remember, great, I'll look at it when it is relavent, otherwise, just go with the flow until someone tries to exploit something.
Would I *like* to have it all incorporated, yes! And maybe, just maybe, when my current PHB starts to fall apart, I'll look forward to buying a new one with all the errata updates. But I'm not specifically holding out for that possibility.

I write them in the margins of the book. It's not like I'm gonna sell the books in any kind of useable shape anyway.

I print out the errata, cut it up and insert the strips of paper into the books at the appropriate pages. Easy as pie.
I do a similar thing, only I use Post-it notes: I write the errata on the Post-its in ink then stick them directly over the text they replace.

Thats what I do too. I don't really need an errata to tell me a fighter power is missing its "martial" designation or somesuch. Big changes/clarifications stick in my brain and the rest are thrown out.
I do keep a printout in the back of my book for whenever I have a few spare moments and want to review the info.
