Core Rules PDF's errata'd yet?

The PDFs will be updated with errata around the time the Special edition core books come out.

The standard print core books will see it on their next reprint and that date depends on the rate of inventory movement.

Will people who previously purchased PDF's be allowed to download the updated versions when they are released for free?

Generally, when a PDF from RPGNow or DrivethruRPG is updated, your number of downloads is automatically reset and you can download the update as if it was part of your original purchase.

Scott, the need isn't for "an update". It's for a commitment to continuing regular and timely updates as errata are released.

That's the big value-add the PDF versions can offer to someone who already owns a copy of the content in paper books. Since the price-of-a-coffee-more plan was dropped, this is important.
I would agree.

As errata is pushed out, the PDFs need to be updated and pushed out to the retailers. I have been part of businesses that have had to do this before, and while not trivial, it's an important part of the errata and update process.

It also builds strong customer relations.

As books with errata get reprinted with they will also get a PDF update as well.

This does not mean that any book with errata will see a print or PDF update. For books to get errata they have to be re-typeset to accommodate the changes.

Errata also gets posted into the compendium.

All Errata will still get posted to the free part of the web as well.

That's reasonable. The PDF doesn't get updated until they reset the pages for print. It can be costly to properly update page layout when text changes. I'm definitely leaning toward going digital now.

Scott, first off, thank you for posting.

My next question would be, how... "seroius" can people feel that WoTC is about embracing the whole digital initative when by your words here, errata may not be put into a PDF file because it would require re-typeseting? For dozens of publishers who've, I don't want to say "truly" embraced PDF formats, it doesn't seem to be that big of a problem. Is it more a matter of size and resources or simply not worth the bother on the PDF front if it's a book that's not likely to see a reprinted run?

Is there any chance that you guys will be going back and doing this for the stealth errata that popped up in the 3.5 Rules Compendium and special edition printings?

P.S. Thanks a million for getting the ToB, Complete Champion, and Complete Scoundrel errata posted. It gives me a lot of faith as a customer that you guys are taking the time to follow through on 3.5 errata this late in the game.

I think it is a fair criticism. It is a matter of resources. On the inside typesetting always seems to be an area were we are crunched. It is often a case of cramming to much through a small department. We could probably stand to hire one more person but that is not my bailiwick.

That being said I am speaking a little off the cuff here and calling as I see it and it may be that errata does get typeset into PDFs. Time will tell I guess.

Doubtful with us fully on to 4e although we are still going to put out some 4e updates to 3.5 books like Exemplars of Evil
