As long as I like the other players and the GM, I'll play any game system, regardless of whether I like it or not. If I had the opportunity to play a 1st edition game, I'd probably take it and enjoy playing. That said, 1st edition is far from my preferred version of D&D. I'd probably prefer to play in 3rd, 2nd, or basic over a 1st edition game.

Ha. I love it. Preferences for every edition of D&D known to humankind, all in the one thread, and already!

Oh wait, what about 3.0? Did someone mention that one yet, or does another poster have to come in and nominate it?

"If I had enough free time"? Well, sure, of course I'd play.

Of course, since that is wholly, completely, and wildly unrealistic (thus making it meaningless), I can't really answer the poll. In the end, everything has some sort of opportunity cost.

In this case, it would be 1e vs. something else I may or may not have more fun with. And with all things being equal, if I could spend my time playing 1e game or spend that same time playing a 3e game (this is the real choice, of course), I'd stick with 3e every time (and play updated 1e modules - woo!).

So, after all that blathering of mine, I'll vote "no".

I'm one of the maybe votes. I'll play any edition of D&D as long as I believe two things.

1. The DM is a good one.

2. The players are good players.

If I believe those two things I'll even play 4E like I have for the last two months.

This is exactly my feeling.

I would rather play Castles & Crusades than AD&D simply because I have played so much AD&D in the past and I would not want to hear the same old complaints again.

Even moreso, I would love to play some B/X or OD&D and I would be happy to play the retro-clones Labyrinth Lord or Swords & Wizardry.

But if I were to run any Old School game, it would either be S&W using the Carcosa setting where its Swords against Sorcery in a world of Cthulhu beasties or I would run Mazes and Minotaurs to get crazy with Greek mythos and Ray Harryhausen.

You can download Mazes & Minotaurs for free!

I'll try anything at least once. I'd reserve the right to make sarcastic comments about crazy game design, and it certainly wouldn't be my first choice. But yeah, I'd give it a shot if I couldn't find anything else.

I'm sure with that degree of enthusiasm, you'd be invited. ;)
