So, as long as someone has the Ritual Caster feat and appropriate skills, you could cast any of the rituals
on the list as long as it's same or below your level? so a fighter with that feat and religion skill
could cast a raise dead ritual?

The Fighter does have to buy a ritual book and any rituals that he wants to cast. Wizards and Clerics get their Ritual books free. You can also find ritual books as loot.

Well...

The Fighter doesn't even need to be trained in the the Religion Skill. (I assume you mean trained in Religion, since everyone "has" all skills.) In fact, you technically don't need to be trained in any skills in order to perform rituals, however, the result of some rituals is better depending on the result of your skill check. Naturally, a character trained in the key skill will end up with more favorable results. Raise Dead doesn't require a skill check, however.

The fighter does, however, need to be trained in Religion (or Arcana) in order to take the Ritual Caster feat and thereby be able to use rituals. You're correct that he doesn't need to be trained in the ritual's key skill, though.

Wow, absolutely wow... I am still having a hard time seeing rituals not tied to a
power source though. A cleric casting magic mouth or wizards raising dead etc..

Think of rituals as more of a formulaic approach to magic. Eye of newt and wing of bat gives you a witches brew. The skill check/training in arcana helps you to know how to select the best eyes and wings, and more experience in proper potion stirring, but anyone can follow the recipe.

It ends up being difficult to cast multiple different times of rituals. You end up having to tote around all of the different varieties of components. Its generally better to focus on one or two categories of rituals to simplify your component bookkeeping.

I agree. I'd have liked some rituals to be class-specific, or maybe just that each class could have their own tier of rituals. Definitely food for houseruling.

I think WotC might be moving in this very direction with the Ranger ritual previewed from Martial Power.

They don't get the book for free but they do get the feat for free. You need to pluck down the gold for the book.
